Mean machine Mello! My best riding buddy has a yellow Valkyrie of a similar vintage, I have only ridden it once but with that wheelbase it feels like the front wheel is in another postcode! He also mixes things up as he has a supercharged ZH2 for other duties.

The first time I road one, years back was on a visit to a buddy in Phoenix, and I rented one. We headed into the Superstition Mountains and high plains there, plenty of twistys. My buddy was on a ZX6 Kawi... and with me in the lead on some twists, I got the wild hair and decided to go for hanging off on the thing. Was moving really good on it. Then later at the stop for dinner, my buddy couldnt stop laughing about how wild I looked forcing this monster bike back and forth, hanging off, and gaining ground. He barely could keep up on the ZX6...

Yeah if you decide to work your ass off, it can hustle pretty good in twists, although anymore on the thing, I am the mello foole ez cruising 45mph in the wooded backroads around here.

Like the Valk! I almost bought one to fix up and I agree the front is in another post code.

Today I decided to tackle chain slider on the NSR250. I think I posted previously that I went with the rivet approx to salvage the original slider. Mmm didn’t hold after a day out at Seca. My first street ride after the plastic gave up on my driveway. Kept finding hard plastic bits here and there until I realized it was coming from the NSR. BRAINIAC..

Any who here is a cool shot of the left side while in process. Facking expansion chamber! image.jpg
Lost both of the original mounting tabs and the entire lower section. No damage found on the swing arm… image.jpg .whew The rivet and the piece it was holding was still present. Lol

and here is the new slider installed. PITA only because there is not a lot room. You have to remove an “alignment bolt” first. Luckily it is only a swing arm to engine bolt. I thought it might be linked to something internal. You just need to get the hooks of the slider onto the post of the swing arm. image.jpg

Id love to find another one, I have a full set of rothmans bodywork here that needs a home. Unfortunately the days of 1) finding them and 2) finding one thats affordable to restore, are now few and far between

A long time ago, on a mountain ride far way, on my lovely VTR250, a sharp rock tore a hole in the sidewall while I was zipping along. I got a ride home from a friend on the back of his BMW to get the trailer.

And then...a few weeks ago, something sliced the rear on the CB-1 locally. I got a ride home from a friend on the back of his Tracer to get the trailer...

Friend's 86 VFR700F is in the shop for a fork rebuild, steering bearings and some carb work. Carbs are clean as he stores it properly and I cleaned them last, years ago. But he was getting some drips last year when the bike came out of storage or sat for a while. Split the carbs, replace fuel and vent tube orings, re-assemble, replace the float bowl orings and a bench synch.

It would have been a better time , but Sarah came down in the shop right when I started separating them and was talking about money. Well I wasn't paying very good attention and I pissed her off. I said, I'm sorry. I wasn't expecting you and I'm timing myself. She cocked her head, "why?". I don't know, I'm just fucking around. "And I screwed it up." No. You didn't screw anything up cuz it isn't anything, I just wasn't expecting you. So we talked for about another 10 minutes, figured some shit out and she left on good terms.

Time to go back in the bike. Gonna eliminate the limiting collars this time on the clamps and I think the insulators have another install left in them. I'm really trying to keep this simple and fast without snowballing. He needs to get his space in order and do bike shit at his house. But Spring is here and now he owes me.

    Nice!
Working on the Hawk made me realize how easy a twin is. Takes longer to remove a stuck fuel hose than to disassemble the carbs. lol
