You guys think the motor can be bored out a little bit?

Im not sure, just wondering if there is any tolerance for boring it out for a little power gain.
You could easily go +1mm, maybe +2mm but I doubt any more than that. If you do the math, the displacement increase is so small that it would not make any difference. You might get 1-2hp, but considering that you would have about $1000 in doing that ($600 in pistons and $200 in cylinder boring just to name two) it really wouldn't justify itself.

now jamie if you were to bore it out 1mm more and change the stroke and cam overlap , i think you could get more than just 1-2hp out of it but it wouldnt be worth the money you have to put in it.
I did a little quick math - 1mm over is a 16.7cc increase, that's a 3.4% increase in displacement. For small changes in displacement you will see a proportionally equal increase in power. That equates to 2.3hp. 2mm over is almost 5hp.
Increasing the stroke is pretty expensive. To get a decent amount of displacement increase you would need to increase both the bore and stroke, which bumps up the cost quite a bit. Going +2mm on the bore and +3mm on the stroke you would have a 567cc engine and get almost 10hp more out of it (theoretically). Add some cams and head porting to that mix and you could make some decent power with the little VF500.

so all in all bore and stroke = waste in money... well was just an idea, crushed though. :(

its not a waste of anything for the cc's and hp output would be pretty awesome!! its just up to you if you want to do it or spend the money on it, hell my bike isnt worth the amount of money ive been putting in it but i do it becouse its fun, and i enjoy tickering on it, its all up to you.
yea true say, its hard to push out a lot of power from this motor it seems but i guess on the track it would still be a 500 killer with cbr wheels and suspension upgrades.

Yea so i have read, arent the new ninja 500's not that much faster than the 500 interceptor? and i dont like gixxers too played out. Im going to stick to the interceptors and the cbrs i think.

WOW... thats pretty crazy. Well to tell you the truth im 18 and the miniceptor is my first bike and i think i want to keep if for a very long time so im puttin in some money to it but im thinking of upgrading in a few years after gaining some experience to a cbr 600 or maybe even a VF750 or so. Cant believe you took the miniceptor over a zx7... makes me feel a whole lot better about the bike :P

its a good bike and seeing how your just learning to ride its not too pwerful to hurt your self, hell ask jamie about these bikes hes the uber guru on the first gens,oh the ninja's arent all that great to its more sound then anything!
pageing MR. jamie line one,
im looking for a full fairing kit for the 500 know of any?
i havent any luck on finding anymore FI projects for the 500s
oh mybad i forgot to mail that stuff to you jamie.

Matt - I have a Lockhart full fairing on my 500. I bought it back in the early 90's. Every now and then, you can find them on eBay - like most hard to find parts. If you go to my photo gallery, you can see how it looks on my 500. I like the Lockhart because it doesn't look like an after thought.
