    Fuel Tank and Carb Questions

This is my first post here as I have just bought a 86 VFR700 and have a few questions. The carb and tank were both off when i got it and am confused on a few things.

    1. There are two spouts on the bottom of the tank one to the fuel pump then the carb, but im not sure where the other spout goes to.

    2. On the carb there is a short "fuel line" that comes out of the carb near the gas line in from the fuel pump that is only like 6 or 7 inches long and is open hanging there. Im not sure if its just cut and suppose to go all the way to the other tank spout or its just a air vent.

    3. on the oil cooler there are on both sides, below the actual oil lines, a short rubber tube thats only 4 or 5 inches long hanging there. Are they just vents?

Sorry if the descriptions are vague Im new to the vfr's, my newest bike I own is a 75 Honda CB200T.

Thanks for any help you can throw my way.

    1. one size is about 7/8 O/D with a 3/8 ID, black. This is your fuel. The other is a polytube. Approx. ¼ OD and 1/8 ID. This is a vent, route it along the RIGHT side of the bike, through the frame, there is a small “double back” clip to set this hose in.
    2. it was cut, please get another one. This also is a vent, route it through the frame, to the same location as the Gas tank polytube.
    3. This is an oil/pressure over-flow tube. If your oil temp and pressure rise too high, much like a water thermostat valve, this will open up, and spew hot as fuck oil wherever the tube is. Ensure the tube doesn’t point near where one of your legs will be.

I have an 87 VFR Interceptor 700F2. Our bike makes are extremely close. I have 100% disassembled this bike, and know its workings fairly well. I’m sure you will enjoy this bike, I have. Perhaps you can help settle a bet… is the bike in “TOP GUN” that Tom Cruise rides while “chasing” an airplane, an 86 or 87?

Yeah well i got them on with a lot of blood and sweat. Problem was when i got them on i noticed one of the vent lines was cracked and had to take the carbs back off! So I ended up ordering new rubbers so that it hopefully wont be so difficult next time.

Anyone have any suggestions of a good place to find parts for my bike other than ebay and the local "expensive" honda dealer?

check here for a quick ref guide

    http://vfrworld.com/forums/first-sec...s-sources.html

For this year bike, I would check ebay a lot, local bike scrap yards, bikebandit.com for some parts, and keep a posting in the classified's here on this website...Honda dealer only if you are impatient, or have money to burn.

Well after taking the carbs on and off about 7 times total, the bike idles with no choke. Its still has a little hesitation but its getting better. I still think its not firing on one cyclinder. I got two of the slow speed jets out and two I can that are stuck in the carbs. I broke the slot head off of them trying to remove them. I tried a little heat to see if i could break them loose but they are in there. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get them out?

Also do you recommend the jet kits they sell on ebay?

If they're that stuck in place, I'd soak it in solvent (pull all the plastic/rubber bits off), and see if that helps.

For jet kits, my experiences recently with my wife's hawk have made me big fans of Factory Pro's kits and expertise. Definitely better than Dynojet.

I forgot to mention that the bike has a yoshi exhaust, k&n airfilter, and drilled airbox.....would that make a difference?

    Sounds Good...

Good news i got the bike running great and had my first ride on a VFR today! I think the majority of my problem was that the owner before me drilled out the air box, installed a yoshi pipe and k&n airfilter which caused a lean fuel problem. So i bought a non drilled airbox top installed and it runs like a raped ape now. I love this bike. Now all i need to do for this season is work on some of the fairings which are in rough shape and im set.

This next winter i will tear the bike completely apart and powder coat, paint, and rebuild everything possible. But for now lets ride!

nicely done....the fairings are gonna be a hard one to find..if your good with fiberglass you can fix them( I did and the look alright, but I suck doing body work)

    congrats again

Ive got a good body guy in house who said that he could get them looking good as new. I just need to find some inner fairings that fit up front between the frame and front fairings.

Tube under the tank just in front of the fuel line is the over fill under ther fuel cap and dumps to the ground. The tubes on the cooler are to catch and dump leakage from conectors away from front tire. Heres a picture , is the line you described in this picture?
