TOE CUTTER (07-14-2009)
I finally started the body work on my 87, it was originally blue/silver. Since the decals are no longer available, I'm going to be purchasing the rwb decal set from CBDecals so that I can get it looking as close to a factory machine as possible. At the moment I have 2 panels primed and ready to go for paint.
I'll post pics as it progresses.

I just ordered the decals yesterday. I'm going to wait for them to get here before picking up the paint. I want to try to match the decals to the paint. By the way, I've never really noticed one small detail. Is the blue in the r/w/b models metal flake or a solid color?
Here are some pics, I'm not finished with all of the body work yet. Probably have it all in primer and ready for paint by the end of the weekend.
Left fairing before and after, same with the seat cowl. I can't believe the idiot actually couldn't figure out how to get the seat cowl off, so he cut it:

I can't believe the idiot cut off the seat cowling... I'd kill for one of them for my 87 VFR (for when the lady ain't on board)

You still might be able to find one for sale on ebay. I saw a used one with cracks in it, I think the guy had a $125 buy it now price. Screw that...
With the way the prices are on them, I decided to fix what I had. It turned out pretty decent if I must say so myself.
VFRChuck's stuff pops up out there now and then, but I haven't seen any listings out there.
Once it's done, she will be the queen in the garage. It won't be sold anytime soon, if ever...this is the 3rd time I've owned it...staying this time.
If you ever do get a seat cowl...here's a hint. You don't have to use an Allen wrench to tighten the screws down, I never had any issues by just doing it finger tight.

does it install over the existing 2-person seat? or is there a separate deal goin on there?

Looks good I am restoring a 87 vfr 700 some people just don't take pride in bikes I found mine at a guys house in the back yard tank was rusted out no telling what the carbs look like I got to repair the rear tail fender but it will come together I am going to do some mods like hiding the blinker lights in the front and back but it should look nice after a few hundred dollars lol I hope to see more pic u might give me some ideas
Good luck with it. It's a labor of love throwing one back together.
I've owned many, many bikes over the years. The VFRs top the list for me. Although...I do love the hell out of my ZRX 1200.
I'd considered leaving it as stock as possible, including color scheme etc...you know, one of those "factory original" survivors. Ah, not happening...so, why not do the rwb paint scheme I've always wanted? I'm going to do the wheels in black, I think it looks good on the 25th. anniversary Interceptor...white is a bitch to keep clean. The front fender is still up in the air as well, not sure if I want to go with red on that or blue...again, a que from the 25th. anniversary version. Ah...we'll see, paint is a week or so away.

I don't know I was thinking a silver to fade into black ineed a gas tank if u know where to find a good one at let me know
I origanally had a RWB 86' & have since converted it to blue & silver. I found a Asian company that listed the decals copied the page & had the decals made & had a custom touch added Silver & diamond plate chrome. I'd take photo's but I lost all power to my garage( no lights) & have no clue where the wife hid the camera either. PM me & I could possibly send you some cell phone pic's. Cost me less than $50 to have them made.
Had mine painted the blue met. that chevy used on the 03-05 Caveliers

It's been a long time coming...finally ramping up for paint.
3 body panels done and ready for final wet sanding before paint. I'll have the rest done today. The new paint should be applied before the end of the weekend.
I'm thinking about straying from the original paint scheme, taking cues from 25th. Anniversary Interceptor. Maybe a blue front fender (vs the original red) if I have enough paint left over. The wheels are going to be black.

What paint code/formula are you choosing for the metallic blue? I'm restoring an 86 and can't find the paint formula anywhere. I have the OEM code, but no mixy instructions.
You can buy it here Honda Motorcycle Paint - ColorRite - ColorRite but it is expensive
I found duplicolor dsfm340 works well and is very close to the original after a clear coat.

I broke down and purchased the blue from Color Rite. I can personally attest to the fact that it is on the pricey side.
The white I'm using is a Ford "Pepsi" white...in other words "fleet" white. Personally, I couldn't justify spending a lot more $ on the correct "Shasta" white from Color Rite. Something close is fine by me.
I don't have the paint codes off hand, but...you should be able to find them around here without much difficulty. If nothing else, go to Color Rite's web site, enter your bikes information (make, year, model) and you should find it.
If there is enough paint left over, my brother has a golf cart that might wind up with a 65 Shelby GT 350 paint scheme...white with blue stripes. :)

I've got the paint codes and the formula for the white, but there are no formulas around for the candy aleution blue, so that is what I'm trying to mix. I have access to the Dupont/Diamont computer which does all the mixing.
I'll checkin into getting a touch up bottle of the Color Rite stuff to match it.
Thanks for the help.
^Old honda tri color paints can be hard to match. I had a dupont match my magna came out really weird.
It's been awhile since I last posted, mainly due to the fact that this project has taken a little longer than anticipated. Don't they all?
With all the body work finally done, the day has arrived for paint. I'm planning to complete all of the body panels that are to be white, then move onto the tank, front fairing, and front fender. If I have enough of the aleutian blue left, I'm going to waiver from the factory red front fender and go with blue like we see in the 25th. anniversary Interceptor. I'm doing black wheels as well.
I'll be taking pics through out the process and will post some as things progress.

I was able to order new stickers for '86 700 lower fairings from a Honda dealer about 3 years ago for a VERY reasonable price.

First 4 pieces painted and clear coated. The seat cowl fell on the floor when I was painting it, the right battery cover has a couple of imperfections, sand, paint, clear it again.
Gas tank, front fairing and fender are getting attention today. My goal is to get a white base down on those 3 pieces today, repaint the seat cowl and left cover.

Body parts look nice, progress is a good thing. I'm waiting for my VFRChuck Rt. Lower then I can prime and start painting all the peices. I'm doing the same as you 87 VFR700 Blue/Silver to RWB scheme, all my body and tank parts are ready to prime. Bike itself is showroom new now, I've had time to clean, polish, service, update and check everything (only 5K orig miles) on it. I've allways wanted the RWB 700 or 750 so when this came along I had to do it. I was lucky and got a Seat Cowl on Ebay for $40 shipped near mint cond.
If complete "correct" decals were available, I'd have stayed with blue/silver.
The deciding factor for me was finding a complete set set reprodcution r/w/b decals. Aside from that, I like the r/w/b as well. :)

Hey vfrf2 I see you have a RZ350 project, I allmost picked up 2 of them to restore. There were 2 for 2 grand, seemed like a good deal, cool bikes. The RG500 Gamma was a cool Suzuki too. But then I looked at all my projects and decided not to go there, but I'll allways miss 2 strokes.
