Newbie looking for help...
I've got a chance to purchase an 83 VF750F for $1000 and am wondering if it's worth purchasing/owning?
54k miles well maintained No major issues, seems to need carb tuning/cleaning Has a history of being "quirky". Had overheating problem but never got hot enough to stall motor. Recent water pump. Newer tires and chain. All bodywork intact. Starts, runs, turns, and stops reliably. All bodywork and seat is in good to excellent condition. What do I need to look out for? Is it worth owning as a second bike or a bike for my kids who are fast becoming street riding age? Thanks in advance!

750 is kinda big for a kid to learn on. Carbs can be a pain in the rear. One man's "quirky" is another man's nightmare.

Bought mine (83 VF750F) for $400.00, with 12800 miles on it. Im still under a $1000 with what I've done.
If you dont mind cleaning out carbs, someone will get lazy and part with a bike cheap.

Had an old 84 Sabre - those older V4 have a history of eating cams. My bike did. If it was me - run away.
-But some gus love the old bike, so you gotta decide for yourself. If it need work, very few people will work on it. Good luck, MD

Heard that as well
I've read about the cam issue, I also read that if you didnt really pound the bike it was ok.
I'm pretty mello on mine, not out carving the street. I couldnt pass up the deal either!!

I bought an '87 for $300 on craigslist. It had almost no plastic but a very strong motor. $1000 seems pretty high for an '83. Find an ugly smaller bike for your kids since they will probably make it ugly anyway :)
