History Please

I have recently purchased a 84' VF1000F. What years was this model built and does anyone know why, as I understand it, it was only a few? Any good books about the Interceptor history? Thanks for the help.

Last I heard, Honda dropped larger displacement bikes in the US due to complaints bu none other than Harley Davidson. The government enacted a tariff on bikes larger than 700cc to allow HD to thrive. This happened sometime in the late 80s I think.

I don't remember that time, I do remember the 750 Suzuki GS ruling in the late 70s, what a bike! I remember looking at the Honda CB 900 and thinking what a weird looking bike?LOL After riding the CB900 I did feel cozy, muscle and a humble feeling inside. What a bike for the time.

Actually, I have a book Amazon.com: Honda VF and VFR Interceptor (Whiteorse Press Collectors): Clement Salvadori: Books and have met the author of it as he is a local. It isn't very big but it's pretty interesting if you are into VFs and VFRs. I found my copy used on half.com but that link is to amazon. It might be worth picking up if you truly want to know about the history of the bike.

Honda made the 84 VF1000F only in 84, in 85 they made the infamous gear driven cam version VF1000R and in 86 too, but with dual headlamps. As far as I know that was it for the US. All thou rumors where they kept making them overseas. Sorta like the mysterious 1988-89 VFR
