    rear suspension issues-'95

So i've adjusted the rear as firm as possible and when my wife gets on the bike it still drops quite a bit. She's not a big girl at all and between the two of us we don't push the weight limit of the bike. I've also softened the rear and it seems to drop just as much. With 20,xxx on the bike, could my rear shock be bad/worn? Thanks for any assistance.

    Tom:

The stock spring is, at best, good for a lone rider who weighs 180 lbs.

I'd think about sending it off to Race Tech in California for a heavier spring at the least. About a 180.00 dollar job give or take.

The preload adjustment is a ride height adjustment and doesn't actually change the rate of the spring. What you require is a stiffer spring that is just stiff enough to allow you to set the sag for two up riding, and not so stiff that you cannot correctly set the sag for when you are riding solo. It may end up being a compromise.

Yeah, I am considering buying an old GS series bike. I used to have an '81 GS1100L. Good, cheap, and there are usually a couple around here for less then $2K. Might be a better solution for the two up rides. Now, talking the wife into letting me have 3 bikes.....
