Finally! That only took a decade!!

I've been a fan of gen 5 VFR's since they came out and now they're cheap enough that I bought one last night from a dealer who opted to liquidate before the winter. I'm conducting a social expiriment as I've not told my wife. It's under my bike cover in the garage next to my CBR and I want to see how long it takes for her to notice.
It's a 2001 with 9500miles (was a US bike, I'm near Vancouver Canada), pretty much stock, but with a Corbin seat and beetle bags. $5200 can (bikes are a bit more expensive up here)
I'm not sure about the beetle bags as they are not portable and didn't come with pull out bags like some cruiser bags. Might sell them in favor of my soft bags. Any opinions/advice?? Still has the OEM reg but we all know how to fix that, The white wheels aren't great. Paint or powder coat???? Finally got the bike I wanted...can't wait untill spring!! Anyone near Vancouver want a great CBR F2??

Congrats on the purchase. You've bought one of the sweetest bikes ever made. I think the white wheels look cool. Been thinking about painting mine white, but that would mean I'd have to stop riding long enough to do the work.

Powdercoating is the way to go if you want to change the wheel color! Paint will chip as soon as you get new tires put on. Nice bike! I hope you dont catch too much greif from the better half and if you do explain to her that you did it so she would have a more comfortable seat :)

Recently I stripped and polished the wheels on my 5th gen (sorry, no pics). Left the rought cast portions gloss black. It was, IMO, very well worth the effort!

I would absolutely powder coat! (paint will chip while you watch it!) The white's not bad, but I kinda like black, or maybe gold. Sell the F2 and maybe she won't notice? Mine sure would!!
    Happy trails

Quietly working weekends and putting the $ aside. She won't be mad I'm just trying to show her that nothing goes on around here without her knowing about it though if the VFR were black I doubt she'd know the difference to my CBR

Worked for me. Mine can't tell the difference betwee my 2nd gen and my
6th. (both white) I just told her I got new "race" fairings I'll do it again when the 1200 comes out. I'm sure glad she's pretty, if it weren't for her good looks and badonkadonk, I don't know how she'd get by.

    Congrats!!

I will admit the white powder coat does look pretty sick on the wheels. I'd love to take the beetle bags off your hands and if possible that corbin seat! muahaha you can have my old seat and a sweaty wad of cash if you are interested!

Congrats on your new ride!! Let us know how the wife experiment goes.
There's at least one thread on VFRD about painting the wheels like that, the guy did polished lips and painted the rough areas red to match the bike, then sprayed clear over the top.

LMAO that's funny. Today will be the test, she took her scooter to work for the last ride of the season which was parked right next to the covered up VFR, I'm dying to know if she noticed. The person who is most likley to find it first is my eight year old daughter who spends more time out there with me than anyone. It's going to be tough to not be able to ride it until spring. I've got a hand injury so I had a buddy test ride for me. All I can do is blip the throttle. Looking forward to it for sure.

Yeah she found it today but only because I was leaning against it talking to her. I could have steered her away and hidden it for longer but it was a pain not being able to work on it. She was understanding.
