    The horns of a dilemma...

    Part it or sell it.
there you go that's the whole deal.

    99 VFR 12,000 miles
I had it for about 4oo miles or so & low speed low-sided it into a car that had stopped for no reason.

    Damage:
front fairing; fairing stay; & the attachment point on the frame is busted. left side fairing, right side fairing. small dent in tank. headlight. front window. turn signal housing. both mirrors. both dumbo lights, probably a bunch of stays.

    What's good:
well....it runs. and you can ride it - as long as you dont mind all that plastic flapping around in the wind. it kinda looks like you are turning right all the time.
Front forks & fender wheel & brakes are fine.
seat, tail section fairing, tail lights.
    the R/R works very well.
    Motor starts runs really well.

A guy has offered me $700 to take it as-is.
I can part it out for.........wheels, seat, tail, lights motor......maybe a grand?
    dunno.
    There is no insurance.
    I've replaced the bike with a 98.
    what would YOU do?

    TIA.

depends on your patience level....parting out takes time and space. For me, it would be worth selling for $700; getting rid of one project and clearing up the space.

    What can you get for:
    motor
    rear subframe
    wheels
    forks

But, yeah, parting out could turn into a hassle. I guess it all depends on how much your time is worth.

I currently have 3 bikes I am "parting out". Had 4 but gave away the balance of one just to be rid of it. $700 and it is gone? Not worth the other potential $300 to fool with it. DTR with it! Sucks you crashed it though.

Keep it! you own another 5th gen and the parts will come in handy sometime. That is if you have the space.

    Thot about that too.
It looks like the parts on this bike that are busted are probably the parts that I would need......from a drop or not stopping in time.

I'd likely end up with 2 bikes needing the same stuff.

    Unless - god forbid - I get rear-ended.......

    Who Knows.

    1.Charging system
    2.12k motor
    3.sensors and harness
    4.wheels and tires
    5.headlight and tail light
    6.fuel pump
    7.starter

Those parts are quite expensive if you need them(you will eventually) and you still would have many other parts left over to sell at your leisure.

    +1

I'd love to have that motor, but don't have anywhere to put it. If you have space, keep it because you'll need those parts some day. Or maybe I will.

Depends if you're in Kirkland or Nipomo. If you're in Kirkland, you could sell it to me and I could probably make it disappear this weekend. PM me if interested.

I have a spare motor that I bought from a 98 that I later found out was a cali model. I have 49 state cams from another motor but would rather not go through the trouble. The motor has less than 4K on the clock. PM me if you are truly interested Ottoman or any of you others on the west coast.

Thanks but I'm not in need of a motor, nor another bike for that matter, my reasoning is that, as a very longtime biker but relatively new VFR convert, I've quickly come to appreciate this bike like no other and I am of the feeling that a low miles 5th gen deserves a more dignified death than that of simply being parted out, tracked or crashed by a beginner. I believe it deserves a second shot at a long and well loved life in the hands of someone with the facility and ability to give it a proper rebirth! Thanks anyway.

I'm glad you resolved your issue bro. I thought now you could possible help me out by answering a question. How many horns does your average dilemma have? I have been wondering for a looooong time.

Yes, I am. Yes, I have. No, you may not.
