    battery replacement

I just replaced my battery today. I've had electrical problems since the week I bought my 2000 vfr about 2500mi/3 months ago. It started with a dead battery, then more frequent clock resets. Last week, I had to jump start several times. After learning a bit about issues with the electrical systems, I think I narrowed it down to a bad battery. It was a bit too fast recharging on the tender, the voltages at idle were good and at higher rpm steady. So it didn't seem like the r/r was bad (PO said it was replaced by his PO) and all contacts looked good.

So I replaced the WestCo YTX12-BS battery with a Scorpion YTZ14S. I think this model is for the 6th gen but I just added a wood block for a spacer. My reasoning was that the YTZ14S had better specs like higher CCA. I paid $68 w/shipping instead of 121 for a yuasa. Didn't like the tiny terminal bolts, so I used the thicker ones from the westco. Maybe you can see this in the attachment.

    batteries

as far as batteries go i have had a cheap one from autozone and it fried after a year. I heard interstate batteries were good but found out they are garbage and twice the price. I had my batteries on tenders too. the more i read on here people say to stay with the yuassa stock oem. I have one of those now and using my tender . aslo i would check the part number of that rr cuz the stock partnumber was superceded by a different part number due to the issues and reliability of the original.

The higher cca will help with cold temp starts. You will want to use a spacer that is the same size as the battery case. The one you have is not allowing the weight of the battery to sit on the strong outside walls of the case but is putting that weight solely along the edge of the spacer where it meets the bottom of the case and could make it prone to wear or failure there. Just a thought about that.
