    Dropped bike :(

Can you believe it, only bought the bike less than 12 hours ago, and a combination of cold tyres and slippery drive sent the bike down the road!!! I'm heart broken!! At least the only damage is cosmetic. Saying that, I can't seem to find replacement fairings anywhere.

I'm looking for the left hand lower and an upper fairing yellow. Preferrably in the uk, but at this moment in time I'm willing to look anywhere! Seen a few on ebay from Hong Kong but the reviews of them don't sound great.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Jo

youch, sorry to hear about your drop but at least you've got it out of the way

Have you checked with your Honda dealer? Is 1999 too old for them to carry parts for? That's not cool if so. There are a number of big parts suppliers in the US. I checked Ron Ayers for you and I didn't see VFR under 1999 there sadly.

sounds like you must be alright since I don't hear any word of up coming skin grafts!

When I was in the service, I new a guy who bought a brand stinkin new superbike and laid it down on a clover leaf headed back to base. I bet he didn't have 5 miles on it.

Man, that happens. It's probably tough for you to think about that right now, but damage to motorcycles ocurrs more than most people realize. There's a good chace that your 1999 model has been damaged to some extent in the past already. Again, probably not what you want to think about, just keep in mind that it can be fixed!

There was a super long thread at bay area rider forum, about a guy that bought a desmosidici, one of the first ones in the US, sent his brother to pick up the bike....you know what happened next. i don't want to even think about how bad that would feel, luckily it was only cosmetic damage too.

Tried David Silver Spares? Drop a note to see if they have the parts you need. A quick look did not show it but it never hurts to ask. I have dealt with them. They are straight away easy to deal with and a helpful lot as well. Good luck. Sucks about you dropping the bike though.

Oh man this sucks to hear, good to know other than pride all is good, you might, as I haven't a clue if Service Honda ships to the UK, but around here they are known for great pricing as well as there's 99% chance they'd have your part, if you can dial the US their toll free number is 1 800-828-5498 GL

    First of all, welcome aboard.
Second, I know how you feel. Been there, done it.
Third, I left mine as is.

Sorry to hear about the drop. Is it repairable if you can't find good replacements?

Even if you have to buy used (which is likely), don't automatically count out replacements in different colors. They can always be painted to match your bike.

at local stealership, guy was inside signing the papers, g/f wife went out side, started it up, let the clutch go, and dropped it. not even 1 mile on bike. In the parking lot. So, it could be worse.

But at least you were not hurt. Looked on ebay for parts?

    Used parts might be available

Sorry to hear of your misfortune but glad you're OK. A friend of mine smacked a deer last night with his yellow Y2K.
I haven't seen the bike yet but if he ends up parting it out I'll post up some picks.

First off, welcome to the madness that is VFR World. I'm sorry to hear about your mishap, but can assure you that it happens to all of us sooner or later. You just got it out of the way sooner. The first time i dropped mine really pissed me off. Then I realized that over 40 years of riding off and on, I've never owned a motorcycle that didn't have a few "character" marks on it. So I decided to quit stressing over it and just ride. Ride safe brother.

Jo - Its done now, and the key thing is you are OK. So its time to focus on getting the damage fixed and the bike ready for next Spring when hopefully the roads will be nice and dry and this minor hiccup will be a distant memory.

If its just toppled over, the chances are damage will be superficial. But it won't hurt to get someone who knows about bikes to give it the once over just for peace of mind. Its also worth speaking to other local bikers to see if they can recommend any repair specialists. (Many car dent repair firms, are also willing to repair and respray motorbike fairings.) With luck if the fairing parts are just scratched/cracked they can normally do an invisible repair simply reinforcing the back of the part and filling the damaged plastic before respraying it to match the bike.

You will be lucky to find suitable second hand parts in Yellow - but is worth checking local bike breakers, and of course ebay. NB The German ebay site www.ebay.de has masses of VFR stuff compared with the UK site, and if you wade through all the current listings you will find there are firms offering unpainted fairing parts for your bike, which you can then get painted to match the bike. Babelfish should help with any translations and most German sellers offer postage within Europe and take Paypal.

Good luck and when its all sorted think about buying some R&G crash bungs, they've saved my bike twice now, so well worth the investment!

    just browsing the ad.

It sucks what happened and all i know the feeling but i was just browsing here and came across ur needs. My bike is getting custom painted and i have other fairings just for the custom paint, so if u r interested in about 2 weeks after the paint job completion i will be selling my oem 2000 vfr yellow fairings. I will give a great deal on them and sell them piece by piece. I do get a good deal on shipping too 75% off fed ex but i do live in the united states. Hope i may be able to help u. If u need paint codes for the bike i have those too for that particular yellow and it isnt cheap. 1qt 195 us dollars 1/2 pint 88us dollars. It's crazy and that doesnt include the basecoat which is about the same. That yellow is a pearl but seems like its a metallic in my mindset. Well if interested let me know. also about those hong kong fairings, they are a joke. My friend sho is painting my bike has painted several of those and he showed me a set he was doing they are flimsy cheap and unreliable. Some come predrilled in w hich they dont line up or some undrilled and pieces dont seem to fit. Yeah it's cheaper my friend said but its more of a pain and u shouldnt be able to lift a side fairing in one hand and watch it fold over like a banana peel. He also stated that it sets him back in paitning them too cuz he doesnt know how the paint will react to them cuz each one he has done the paint has reacted differently.
