The Angola story clearly shows what its like to take a bike somewhere completely different into an alien enviroment and soak up all the local scenery and what the local people have to offer, and i hope to have a similar experience next year when i do my trip to Thailand and Burma.
The actor Ewan McGregor recently crossed the old Soviet Union by bike and i saw a documentary on that, one of the best bike trips i've ever seen.

That is so much of the greatness of it. I saw and learned so much more seeing the Philippines by public transit and motorcycles than I would have just renting a car and sticking to the highways. I loved it.
Hey John,
Can I be a nosey SOB and ask how much that trip of yours is setting you back per person? I would be very interested in something like that, based on cost however. Also, are you planning on just winging your accommodations (i.e. camping, cheap hotels, renting a room/hut from locals wherever you end up) or do you have set plans?
