2 years? I don't know about you but the way you ride makes a big difference in how the chain wears out. My chain lasted about 7 months and I'll probably have to replace it every 6-8 months because I do like a spirited ride.

I have a friend who had a CB1000 (what a torque monster!) and he had a chain that lasted only 2 months. YMWV (Your Mileage Will Vary)

As for the sprockets the teeth shouldn't look like pointy teeth. If the teeth are looking sharp and can cut you it's time to replace the sprocket.
