Spies To Honda?

The "silly season" has begun in the racing world. Rumour has Spies going to Honda in Moto GP. There's also another rumour that he's going to Ducati in WSBK.

SpeedTV - Spies To Honda

IMO, the WSBK Ducati ride would be much better for Spies than the privateer Honda team in Moto GP. Since it's not the factory Honda team in Moto GP, I have a hard time believing Spies will sign in Moto GP.

Should be interesting to see where everyone lands for next season.

Are you sure it isn't the Honda factory team in MotoGP? I also heard nicky Hayden was moving over to Ducati which would leave a slot open on the Honda team.

I totally agree. I watched the last 4 AMA Superbike races before Atlanta and it was clear Ben Spies was working to capture the championship and not win races. Matt Mladin looked possesed and unbeatable. Then at Atlanta, Spies simply dialed back up into his early season form and showed the world why he is the champion this year. He took his penalty (even though they should had stopped the start!), and then promply passed 11 riders to get second and if there were another 2 laps I think he would have smoked Mladin as well. In race two he did just that. He is an amazing rider and deserves a MotoGP ride. However, I sometimes think the FIM World Superbike series is more fun to watch than MotoGP anyway. I like the two race format more, there seems to be more passing and simply more action.

I'd like to see Ben on Bayliss' ride!

Well from what I've heard Nicky would ride a Ducati in the MotoGP series and Spies would be riding the Ducati that Troy Bayliss will be vacating in the FIM WSB Series.

Spies wants too much?

Here is a article on Ben Spies salary demands...

With Capirossi and Vermeulen officially signed, this leaves Ben Spies - the man who was 99% sure of joining Suzuki at the beginning of the year - looking at other options. Part of Spies' problem remains his salary demands, which, though not exorbitant by the standards of an AMA Superbike champion, are well beyond what a MotoGP rookie might reasonably expect, unless they were a multiple world champion in the 125 and 250 champion.

This leaves Spies is in a dilemma, with sources from the Road Atlanta AMA meeting saying that his team was not interested in taking "a 75% pay cut" just to run in MotoGP. If he wants to make it into the premier class, though, he may have to do just that. Unless, of course, he can pull out a huge surprise at Indianapolis next weekend.

I agree, PAred. Spies was amazing in that race. As much as I enjoy Moto GP, I enjoy watching WSBK even more. Tha format is better, the competition is better, and the personalities of the riders more compelling. How could you not be a fan of Bayliss, Haga, etc?

I'm going to the Indy race, and I'm pulling hard for Spies to podium. Can't wait.
