Oil Mod

Has anyone installed one of the holeshot oil mod kits on a first gen. VFF? If so was it stright forward or was there a lot of little issues along the way?

And by the way Interceptors Kick A**

Well after checking out all the method to do the oil mods I'm going to do the drill and tap approch for a few reasons. 1) the job when done (right) looks like its supposed to be there not an after though. 2) The post from you guys helped out tons, Jamie daugherty for his web site. Derstuka for pointing me to the thread

Keep in mind that you'll want a metering orifice in the system to regulate the flow. Depending on the style/size/brand of hose and fittings you use it might not be necessary, but at a minimum you'll want to measure pressures to make sure that you don't have a potential problem. When building a system yourself, the actual size of this orifice will need to be determined by trial and error.

It's hard to believe that you can have too much flow to the top end, but it's really the bottom end that needs most of the pressure from the oiling system.

There seems to be a debate within the group of people who opt for the drill & tap method, some use -4 hose from the gallery all the way to the heads, while others use -4 hose from the gallery and then drop to -3 after the T split.

I went with the reduction to -3. YMMV.

OK all was going well until I started putting the carbs on this evening. I noticed coolant setting on the case right side rear head. ( BUMMER) Looked at the honda service manual and to fix this leak I have to remove the engine from the frame ( Lots of work I had not planned on Time And $$$). OK with the engine out and having to replace one head gasket should I also replace the front head gasket? And what else should I do with the engine out? Thanks for any help

I'm confused: what makes you think it's the head gasket? Head gaskets almost never cause an external leak. If you see coolant puddles in the V area this usually means one of the seals for the coolant tubes is leaking. This is fairly common with these bikes, it's understandable considering how hot it gets in there. The seals are special Honda parts but not that expensive. This is certainly not something that you need to remove the engine for!

Well Jamie I'm a worst case kind of guy . Your right on the money with the coolant tube so the fix is easier to do ( see sometime the worst case thing pays off) I'll need to get the Oring gaskets and replace them all. Thanks Jamie for your insights. very helpful..
