In the first shot, my eyes were confused on what they should be focusing on. Its a great idea for a shot, however I would much prefer the capture without the ship or barge in the distance. Its hard to tell exactly what it is, is a little OOF, thus doesnt provide anything towards the overall feel of the photo.

Second photo is much better, just overexposed IMO. The star formation forming on the over exposed lamps, distract the eye from the peaceful and serene shot I think you were looking for.

Good work though. You have a good eye.

i agree.
a polarized filter would have eliminated the starbursts....

I'm thinking he used a star filter to GET the stars.

in the first picture, it looks like the barge / ship is a freighter loaded w/ 2010 VFR's......1000cc's, no VTEC, SSA.......maybe belt drive, can't quite see........

Actually......... no filter of any kind was used in the making of that picture.

yeah its my privatee barge stuffed full of 2010 vfr V5 with a gps/radar detector/online station biult into the heads up display that is all voice activated....... no it is a pier out here at one of the beaches and the hoist is for launching small (12-25 ft ) fishing boats.
