Taliban in Afgan Gov OK with OBAMA
Is this man on fucking crack?! One of the main reasons of going into Afganistan was to remove the Taliban from power! Good God almighty, this asshole's politically motivated delusions are gonna get lots of people killed...

Who the hell cares about the Taliban? We went in to rout out al-qaida who the Taliban was protecting or at least letting stay in their country. If they want those nuts in the government they should be able to decide that. Us telling them they cannot be in there does not really work either. Yes its a bit of a mess over there to say the least.

Yep, that might just happen but it will take a long time for Obama to catch up with Bush's record of dead folks on all sides. That was one thing he was really fucking great at.

besides...why should we kick out the Taliban...we put them there to begin with.... root out the terrorist networks and then come home....... And yes I do kow what kind of shitheads (to say the least) the Taliban are... but our govt seems to have a track record of putting these types of folks in power, then 10-15 years later spanking them and trying to get them out because they stopped doing what wee tell them to.

hmmm our guy that the US wanted in the Gov't was from the Northern Alliance not the taliban but Osama killed him.
looks to me like if we allowed the troops to destroy the poppy/ opium plants from day one of the ground offensive they would have run out of money along time ago to continue thier fight against us. We could have replaced w/ corn so they could supply us w/ bio fuel. History has a way of repeating itself hmmmm I've seen this before. I thought this was a deep thread at first. Anyone seen him lately??

Anyone here seen "Charlie Wilson's War"? Pretty good flick. We screwed ourselves when we left Afganistan in the lurch after the Soviets pulled out. With the absence of support/leadership, the Taliban had an easy time taking over, then turned their hatred toward us.
As for the poppy fields, to my understanding the US didn't burn them all down b/c we need the help of the militias run by the owners of those fields. IIRC, the Taliban actually did a much better job of controlling the poppy crops b/c drug use is strictly forbidden by their religion. Don't get me wrong, the Taliban is extremist scum IMO, and I'd be just as happy to see 'em all dead, but we can't control everything. Our troops are spread too thin, but I'm hoping as we pull out of Iraq we can finish what we started in Afganistan. Last edited by TimRav; 10-30-2009 at 01:15 PM. |

Ok, a blonde motorcycle cop stops a blonde for speeding. She asks the driver for her license. She says in a confused manner, "Hmmm...license..."
"You know..." says the blonde cop, "it is rectangular and has your picture on it..." The blonde driver looks through her purse, pulls out a small mirror and says "here it is" and hands it to the cop. She looks at it and says, "oh, I am sorry, I didn't realize you were a cop, just keep the speed down, I'll let you go this time..."

We lost our 130th in Afganistan a couple days ago. (God look over them and those left behind). That may seem like a pittance to the losses the US as suffered over there but it is huge for us. There must be a fix. Where is it?

So the options are 100K total US troops in Afghanistan for the next decade building a country with 1-2K military dead per year & no guarantee of success, or pull out and let Taliban take over with threat of Predator drones just off shore should they let Al Qaeda get a breath back, in the mean time the Taliban will terrorize the Afhgani's and continue to marry 12 year old girls off to 32 year old men who use them for forced labor and sex, among other human atrocities. Unbelievable options, thank goodness I'm not the person that has to make it. Bless Obama and I hope the choice he makes is the right one. Last edited by vfrcapn; 10-31-2009 at 08:42 PM. |
