Im totally screwed, anyone want a nice bike?

I got arrested in Virginia last night for DUI. I blew .10 with .08 the legal limit in VA. I also had one 9 years and 9 months ago So IM TOTALLY SCREWED! I thought I was fine to drive, but I wasn't DON"T MAKE MY MISTAKE stay at home to drink.

Long and short my 04' VFR Red beloved bike will have to go as my liscense will surely be at least restricted the next year or so. Max is 3 year suspension, 30 days in jail. Our house also flooded 2 days ago catastrophically due to a water main brake. All this and my wife and I were on vacation at the shore. Lost vacation came home to screwed used to be beautiful house now Im going to jail, its been a great week.

Will post in classifieds and buying and selling, this sucks so bad...

VaRollOn:

Are you serious?

Man, I was hoping to ride over to VA someday and actually ride with you sometime next year! I have never rode skyline drive and have been meaning too since about 2000-2001 time.

Your situation is exactlly why I never, ever drink and drive.

I hope your spouse has been understanding bro!

Take Care.

So sorry to hear you got popped. Get a good lawyer, two of my friends have gotten caught here in the last couple of years and they both lawyered up and got off. It wasn't cheap but they beat the charge. I should add that both blew right over the limit.

Get a continuation on the court date with a lawyer. 10 years from the date of " being found guilty of DUI"... Get a lawyer to drag it out in court so you get past the 10 yr mark... Ta Da , thats is what my brother did...
93 days is what you need to hold up the court..
If not , ask for a jury trial as it takes time to find a jury and select people..

Man, that sucks; as stated get a lawyer don't just bend over & take it. They will be more than happy to give it to you, won't be cheap suppose the bike sale would finance it though or at least part of it. GOOD Lawyer, delay, delay, delay; I had a buddy about 10 years ago that got nailed blew a .18,underage(19 or 20), was drag racing on a city express way, broke an axle spun out of control & took out a stop light. His mother a nurse also watched the whole thing happen out a window @ the hospital(right @ the intersection he took out the light), he lawyered up & got off w/ a reckless driving("0" point violation, looks really bad on insurance though) & had to pay for a new stop light. Totaled a cherry special edition 77' Monte Carlo; out the door I think he was out $10K but worth it in the long run. I've been lucky to date( pounding vigourously on this particle board table I'm sitting @) I've been very deserving of such an award more than once; luck & one very understanding LEO that looked the otherway are the only reason I haven't been in your shoes. Keep your head up & try to keep positive

Consequently, I was up in PA two weeks ago...and I bought an '03 VFR! HELLS YEAH! SO don't sell your bike and I will ride up from NC so we can ride.

If you did indeed get your 2nd DUI, you're an idiot, got everything you deserved & I have ZERO sympathy for you.

How much you looking to get for your bike? I'll be in the market for a used 6th gen shortly.

KC-10 FE out...

Hey Swoop!

Not much is going on except the ol house renovation LOL! I just came back from PA myself! Was in Warren, PA over the 4th hanging out with family causeing general mayhem and debauchery! Like you I have been pretty busy so I have only been able to scan VFR World on the fly.

Sorry VaRollON, not trying to hijack your thread! Mrs. Zanetti says she hopes things are OK with your family.

Im not looking for sympathy KC, I was just relating the situation. Our societies' lack of personal responsibility disgusts me.

This was my fault, period. Our house flooded 2 days before and I guess the pressure of everything going on did effect my judgement. Thinking you are ok to drive doesn't make it so.

I'd take $6500 for the bike considering condition, accessories, milage etc..
With that said, obviously it's only worth what someone will pay for it.

thanks to you and your wife BZ, we can use all the well wishes we can get right now.

ride well

The whole situation is crappy man. We all have lapses of judgement, and it just so happens that sometimes luck isnt enough to get us through them. I hope you get through the charges without too much crap, since it sounds like you know you f'ed up.
If the bike absolutely has to go, then so be it. Did you have flood or disaster insurance?

thankfully we do have good home owners ins USAA, which will be dropping us from car insurance I am sure. It still is hugely expensive with deductibles, paying plumbers which isn't covered etc..

at this point the house is the least of my worries.

VaRollOn, I have to agree with the statements of KC-10 100%. And for you other guys that are saying, ah...just get a lawyer, blah, blah, blah. Bullshit!
He was tested and he admitted that he was drinking. What the hell is wrong with you guys when you suggest that somebody should not take responsibility for their actions? It's bullshit!
I wish the hell somebody would have knocked some sense into the bastard that killed my brother and his wife while DUI (2nd time)!!
So, my suggestion to VaRollOn is to take your medicine like a man and learn from it. You probably have a real drinking problem and need to do something about it.
Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your lapse in judgement. We all make mistakes. I believe it is how one recovers from mistakes that defines one's character. From all your helpful posts on this forum, I'd like to believe you are a character with good character. Let me know if there's something I can run over the Potomac to help out... extra dry towels?

On your scooter. I'd suggest you wait at least a month as a "cooling off" period. I doubt the 30 days will significantly effect the sale price and you'll be in a different state of mind.... unless you need the cash for the house.

Hope you and yours get through this and your experience keeps someone else from being the dummy you were after the drinks.

Your opinion is definetly valid & does not fall on deaf ears & delivered more tactfully than KC( Not slamming you KC your just blunt & opiniated, something I've come to enjoy actually). Granted I don't know Rich outside of this forum & few personal emails, but come on a real drinking problem w/ something .10 BA & under, depending on weight that could be as few as 3 beverages in the course of a couple of hours. Hardly a "drinking problem", then again I am from WI where drinking is considered a sport/hobby by many. If indeed Rich has learned a lesson & is not just upset about being caught( I am of the opinion he has) then something good will come of it. He will receive his lumps whether he would chose to receive them or not, taking responsibility for your actions in no way means you need to just bend over & take it in the ass dry. The suggestions of lawyering up are for personal/family damage control, chances are he will spend a few nights in the gray bar hotel & be out somewhere in the neighbor hood of $10-15K by the time it is over & done with. None of the penalties imposed either in time or money will ever bring back or be severe enough to avenge those that have been innocent victims of drunk drivers; that point would only be argued by an idiot. In this instance nobody was hurt, does that make it better or acceptable NO. But...if the lesson WAS LEARNED there is no reason for it to bring an otherwise good man & his family down. MY $.02

If the lesson was learned the first time, would there be a second time? Apparently it was not learned the first time, so suck it up, take your lumps and maybe THIS time the lesson will stick. But probably not.
