Prexport Road Race boot

Thought I would write up a review of my Prexport road race boots.

Personally, I like to ride with as much protection as possible. If I can get leathers with carbon fiber, titanium, and composite multi-density foam armor, I'm there, baby!

I've been wearing these Prexport boots now going on into my seventh year with them. They are made of a new miracle material for resisting the abrasion forces induced by bitumen asphalt...it's called leather!

Yes, folks, these are one of the very few road race boots you can buy made with this miracle substance. Leather has shown to have significant abrasion resistance over the material used most historically, the Lorica we all know and love.

Here is a photograph of my Prexport road race boots, taken three years ago, when the boots were four years old, taken in the studio by yours truly, PC, with a set of White Lightning monolights, a couple of softboxes, and my Canon D-SLR.

This is my second pair of Prexport boots, and I must say that Prexport makes the most durable and hardwearing boots I have ever worn. I've got well over 27,000 miles of riding on these boots, and except for some small scuffs near the toe, they still look almost new. My previous pair were a pair of AGV's, which at the time were made my Prexport, the Prexport Model 597. I put seven years of wear on those before getting these. You can see that the boots have a hard plastic armor shin protector, but they also have a hard plastic calf/achilles protector like the Sidis, but not articulated. They have a vent on the side you can open for ventilation, and the zippers have proven to be very reliable, except for the zipper pulls, both of which I've pulled off the zipper heads (a small split keyring suffices as a replacement pull).

Overall, I like these boots very much, they are comfortable, provide excellent impact protection and abrasion resistance, keep my feet warm even in winter Northern California rides, and they very, very longwearing boots. I used to wear Alpinestars for many years prior, but I would go through a pair of those every 14 mos. or so, on average. My last two sets of Prexports have lasted me about 14 years by comparison.

And....they are made of real leather. Go ahead, see if you can find another roadrace boot these days made of leather. They are few and far between.

I would have, but I didn't have the Ohlins when I took this shot. It was taken when I was taking a Product and Advertising photo course at Napa College in '05. The boots are still going strong...

Nice shot, the set up is really good. Nice job on becoming an Insider - I was hoping that we could set a trend and make that as common as an avatar around here........ So far it's You, R-Dub and I.............as far as I can tell.

I already have - It seems that since I signed up a lot more folks are getting into the act - It should have happened a long time ago. I didn't even know what it was until I happened to see it in the toolbar and investigated, I would have done it way before now. Sorry to hijack your thread PC - back to topic.......
