Convertibar Install - 1999 VFR 800

JerryS 1999 VFR 800 Convertibar Install

Normally you see only one picture of a product and so took a bunch so you could get a real good idea as to what the Convertibar install looks like. One of my biggest fears was how far AWAY from the stock, racing type clip on look would I be getting. In other words, I didn't want my bike looking like a Harley. As it turns out, I got the bars probably about 3" more aft, and about 4-5" higher. And surprisingly, the bike still looks real good. And my oh' my how comfortable it is!!

The service at Convertibars was impeccable. Easy to buy from, answered all of my questions and responsive. They were out of stock on the brake/clutch lines, but overnited them to me. Super good guys to work with.

I figured, as long as I was installing throttle cables, clutch line & brake lines that were 3" longer... ain't no sense in letting the electrical lines hold me back. So I cut them and spent 3 hours soldering/shrink tubing them back together. They look ugly now, but I'm going to unplug the pigtails from inside the dashboard and put a long black piece of shrink tubing in from top to bottom. I'm also going to re-run the electrical lines UNDER the triple clamp.

The Spiegler braided hydraulic lines look very nice, and besides giving the brakes a nicer feel... I think they add to the overall "eye candy".

Gotta have my Throttlemeister.

Left side showing clutch line.

Yeah... those electrical lines are looking pretty gnarly. But... they will be re-routed and all black when I'm done. I'm thinking that it would have been an easier job if I had unplugged the lines from the dashboard, and removed the electrical switches from the handlebar and then did all of my soldering on a work bench with a chair. My back was killing me after this one!
