Fender Removal

Step 1: Assemble your tools. (See photo) It is important to note that the beer choice is entirely dependant on choice. My choice is cheap light beer on a hot day. A wrong decision here could mess up the whole process. Very important. You'll also need a couple wrenches, and a jigsaw, Honda service manual, and some type of mounting device for the license plate. I used a cheap piece of metal from ebay that was listed as "fender eliminator for VFR - fits many others". Be advised, all you get in this auction is the little piece of metal you see in the pic, no instructions, no thank you note. nada.

Step 2: Get a magic marker and trace a line where you are going to cut off the fender. I used the bodywork as a guide and just traced the line to make the fender flush behind it.

Step 3: Remove the bodywork. (See photo) Once the bodywork is out of the way, you can cut the fender without taking it off the bike. Now keep in mind, my way is the cheapskate way. I'm sure there is a much more professional and cleaner looking way. I just wanted to get it done and go riding. I'm not going into detail about the bodywork removal as it's already discussed in the honda repair manual. Very handy book. You can get by without it, but why would you want to.

Step 4: Screw in the license mounting bracket. I used a couple 1/2" wood screws I had laying around with a washer. (see photo) You'll also not in this picture where I cut into part of the fender that was going to be left in place. Because some of the trunk part extends down into the fenderwell, you have to work around it or you'd end up with a big hole in the trunk.

Step 5: Mount bodywork back in place.

Step 6: Ride. Note the speed increase from less drag on the fender. ;)
