1985 VF700F For Sale $1699 OBO - Memphis, TN

Current issues cause me to sell my beloved 1985 VF700F Interceptor. I have done alot to it and just when I got it running good, I have to sell it.

It'll be my first time without a bike for 9 years. When funds exist, I'm planning on getting a '94-'97 Ceptor. Just love that V4 engine - and the 'Ceptor suits my riding style.

I am asking for $1699 OBO. Shipping is your responsibility, but we do have a Forward Air terminal in Memphis. Can deliver up to 200 miles at .50 a mile

The price may seem a little high, but you are getting a reliable bike that has been gone through from top to bottom with a knowledgeable guy who cares - me!

- 1985 VF700F with 48K on it now and may have a little more at time of sale as it is a daily rider.

- Replaced front and rear headgaskets. Replaced front Head with proper Head. Bike has 600 miles since repair. Cams looked very good.

- Removed the radiator reserve bottle’s plastic elbow and ran the recovery hose straight into the reserve bottle.

- Replaced the radiator cap with aftermarket

- Wrapped Teflon tape around the heat sensor threads

- Bled all hydraulic lines

- Starter button has to manually be moved to OFF when used.

- Replaced the carb boots, main jets, valve cover gaskets and spark plugs.

- Valve adjustment.

- Rebuilt the carbs with new float bowl gaskets, fuel tube o-rings and allen head bolts. The bike already had a K&N air filter and a Kerker 4-1 system so I went up in one jet size for main and slow jets.

- The aluminum air plenum had a large crack in it so it was replaced also.

- I rerouted the throttle cables properly and lubed them.

- The plastic airbox was missing one of two nozzles so I just took the other one off.

- I cleaned up the pistons on the rear caliper (it had cobwebs behind the brake pads) and replaced the bad rotor with a used one barely in spec. I used gasket paper for the spacers for the rotor bolts.

- I stripped and repainted the muffler with VHT Flame-Proof flat aluminum. Still need to paint the rusty headers. Muffler now showing rust through the paint – needs to be redone. System can be removed after removing the front radiators.

- The fork seals seemed to be leaking a little. Turns out the PO had washed the bike with a high pressure washer and got water into the circlips on top of the seals and they started rusting. Not wanting to do a complete seal job, I just wrapped some packing tape around the forks tubes - just above the seals - and worked the seals over the tape two or three times. Got all the crap out of the seals, removed the tape and they don't leak anymore. Packed the seals with grease in hopes of preventing further rusting of the circlips.

- Replaced the fusible link with a blade-type automotive fuse and an inline fuse holder.

- The ignition key opens the gas cap, but not the helmet lock – so I removed it. I have found most helmet locks to be totally useless. Still have it.

- After reading the wiring diagram, the fan on the '85 model gets it's power to the fan fuse from the ignition switch. Turns out the PO used an ignition switch from a different model Honda. All the connectors fit, but one pin was missing from the ignition switch connector that provides power to the fan fuse. Pulled a pin from a scrap connector, soldered in a jumper from the wire beside it and installed it into the connector. Covered the solders with liquid electrical tape. Fans now work.

- Replaced turn signals with small aftermarket single element ones.

- Sometimes the fanstat sticks “ON”. A quick rap with a screwdriver unsticks it.

- Clutch starting to slip at high RPMs.

- Bike has been bench-synced using 3/32” slip of paper, but not gauge synced. No hanging idle and rpms drop quickly – but sure a carb sync will be more accurate.

- Bike getting 38 mpg.

- Tires still have about 90% tread left on them.

- I have fashioned a different license tag holder (from the pictures) under taillight as rear mudguard has been removed.

- Wired in lighted wire in lower radiator to show up at night (with hidden switch). Looks cool to me. Can be removed with no discernable outward appearance of being installed.

- Appearance: Paint is not stock but re-paint is “OK”. I’d say about a 7 out of 10. It’s a 20x20 bike. Looks good at 20 feet or 20 mph. Pictures of bike right after repaint here: http://rides.webshots.com/album/5480...Ms?vhost=rides

Too top-heavy and powerful to be considered a starter bike. Will only sell to individual with helmet and motorcycle endorsement.

Bike located at exit 25 on I-40 just outside of Memphis, TN
