pic of my busted taillight cowl, need replace

I need a replacement taillight cowl for a 2nd gen VFR 700 F. I have attempted to add a picture of what mine looks like to the ad. body is orange metalic with silver decals. It's in 3 large pieces and several bits of attachment lug still under the attachment bolts. Someone ripped the sides off the taillight cowl. probably the previous owner in a fit of rage because he couldn't figure out why the bike stopped running. Taillight fell off because of multiple breaks in the hold down lugs. I also need rear turn signals and if possible a backrest (single seat cowl with bolster). Front and side fairings are also needed. Front right fairing (covers exhaust and motor on RHS) is worst of the set. Other parts of fairing salvagable. Need some of the hardware to attach side and front fairings, particularly one of the cast aluminum extensions that screw into the lug on the chassis down bar. I don't know which side is missing. Are both sides the same? Front light cowl has cracks through at weak points of both rear view mirror mounting holes. Front light cowl has other blemishes as well. The wind screen is blacked out. Is that how it came? The front fender is cracked away on the left hand side near fork mounting point. Other than that its just another day in the park until I get into the rear break rotor et al.

To upload photos, one way is to go to "manage attachments" at the bottom of the new post screen....click that, then "browse" to look for the photo's location on your PC, then once you find it, click the "upload" button....simple as that. Keep in mind that it has to be sized no larger than 640x480 I believe. You can also hotlink from another location by using the little yellow postage stamp button with a mtn on it, and pasting in the URL address from your photo's location.

I seem to be on the wrong page setup

Ive had 2 different guys give me the same instructions you have just sent me. I don't seem to have an "attachment manager" prompt. When I reply to a thread I get a box at the bottom of the dialogue box for the reply. Under that is a box (outline grey) with a title "Trackback".

Beneath that two small option boxes in white appear. The left on says "Submit Reply" and the right one says "Review Post"

Beneath these is a red bar with the title "Additional Options" on the RHS it has a button with a chevron in it.

Beneath the red bar are 4 additional Grey outlined boxes with the following Titles:
1."Miscellaneous Options" with three check boxes.
2."Attach Files" with a list of accepted file identifiers
3. "Thread subscription" to opt out of a thread ?
4. "Rate Thread"

Below this is repeat of the two white boxes seen above: 'Submit Reply" and "Review Post"

I have no "attachment manager" . What am I doing wrong?

If you use the "Post Reply" button, or even just teh quick reply box at the bottom of the page, you can insert an image by clicking on the box that has 2 mountains on it. That will be the insert image button. This can be used if you have your photos stored online, like at photobucket.com, or even in the photo gallery here at VFRWorld, but for here you will need to know the URL to put in the window.

In the attach files box, below the list of acceptable file extensions, is there a button that says "Manage Attachments"? After clicking that a new window will open that will allow you to upload files from your computer.

a picture worth 1000 words

One of you guys punched a button and I got "manage attachments" over night. Thank you. I thought I was crazy or in the sweat box for some reason. I Am going to try putting this pic up for anyone who thinks they might be able weld or paste the cowl back together. Then I will cut this thread down and post a new one with a picture at the top. Here goes.

The pictures came out better than I could have hoped

The pictures gave me an idea. I tried to show how the rear lug holes were broken apart. I think I could get some large washers with inside holes approximately the size of the original plastic lug holes and try glueing them on top of where the holes originally were. What's good to make a fast bond between the material the cowl is made of, and steel or brass or whatever is the thinnest washer I can buy? Don't want a thick washer messing up the seat hold down.

I can just bolt that rear light part back on using the rear two hold down studs, or threaded holes and hardware still on the fender. The problem will be getting the washers to hold onto the plastic with the weight of my big but on the seat. I'll be riding in no time. See you in Susantown.

been waiting for you

After all the trouble trying to get a used part, searching around asking for over a week now, I hoped someone like you might come along. I considered giving up and just gluing some washers on where the original lugs were and leaving the side portions of the tail cowl off. I took the pictures to show how the damage tore the rear lug holes apart (on purpose?). The LHS front lug that fastens to the LHS of the steel sub or tail frame is also broken off. The only original fastening lug left on the plastic is on the broken off front right side extension of the cowl.

What's it worth? I'm going to eventually find a replacement, even if I have to buy a fiberglass copy. How much $ for the time and the bother? What's it going to look like when its done? Can you show me other repairs of a like kind that you have previously done? My cowl/faring was destroyed in anger by the past owner. A human destroyed it. It's not shattered, it was torn apart, snapped into three pieces along the weakest points in the cowl/faring. Someone has already tried to fix cracks with some sort of glue. It was done poorly. What do you think.? Are you going to try gluing it back and reinforcing it with strips of fabric or are you a plastic welder intending to weld it back together? Or do you just want me to trust you and let you try fixing it?.

Oh it will need paint....Unless you would like for me to do that too....It will look like new at that point but i dont know how old the paint on you bike is but its more than likely faded and the new will not be so the color will be off some..
