wrecked '97 750 - should I part it out?

I have a wrecked 1997 750 and I'm wondering if I should bother trying to part it out. The bike had 80k miles on it, but it ran like a top. The plastic is all wrecked, and it won't shift anymore since the shifter got ground off, but it turns on. It doesn't leak oil, the swing arm, wheels, frame, exhaust, engine, etc are all fine.

I'm willing to take it apart, but will I get anything for my trouble? It was a great bike, and I hate to see it go but it's not worth it to me to put the money into fixing it.

Seems like you already answered your own question, when you said it is not worth it. That is what all that matters. What your time and money is worth I guess.

IMO....if the motor is still running well, and it only has cosmetic damage, I personally would repair/restore it. Not exactly sure what you mean about the shifter as far as extent of damage is only to the shifter and not the spline, if so, that would be easy to replace as well.

Part it out??? No way!! I'd fix it for sure. If the frame is good and the engine still runs, the rest is easy.

yes there is a merket for your parts. Lots of people are finding it more difficult to find parts for the older bikes. put an ad in the classifieds here and only take off the part people want.

If parting out I'd be interested in a few parts. Off the top of my head i could use some fairing bolts with the rubber, plastic around tail light if either of those pieces are intact, single seat cowl, also be interested in the chain and sprockets if they have low mileage on them.

I Need

The rubber mount that holds the fuel pump, the rubber that covers the main fuse relay and a lower fairing screw and washer. Plus some other stuff that is on my list that I don't have in front of me. Oh and the '97 owner manual. IF you decide to part it out.

The swing arm would be worth the time to take it apart. If someone here doesn't need one, there are people on ebay or other forums that like to mod their bike with the single sided beauty.

It's just sitting in my garage. You can email me at smoothbr4in (at) gmail (dot) com if you're interested in the wheel.

any chance that the windscreen is still intact? Or does that fall under "plastic" regarding the bike's demise.

(would a 97 windscreen fit on a 96?)

I'm finally getting around to taking this thing apart. It's probably easiest if I list the parts that are broken, rather than the ones that aren't.

So far, none of the plastic is in very good shape. The windscreen is fine, and the lower cowl (COWL, L. *NH347R*) is fine. Both the right and left sides are pretty toast, the left rear is smashed, the rear parts are all broken, but the right rear is probably salvageable. If you are interested I can take some photos, just let me know.

The left handlebar is trashed, the upper triple-clamp has a big gouge out of it from where the left bar hit it but otherwise looks fine. Both levers are bent.

As of right now everything else is up in the air, more than likely the front fork is bent.

Parts that are spoken for right now are:

headlight unit
upper middle fairing
sprockets/chain

If anyone is interested please send me an email. I apologize for any slow responses, but I've been really busy with work and the new bike, so this is kind of low on my list of priorities, but I will get back to you eventually.

Are the left/right panels salvageable? Or is it really completely toast. Pictures if they're salvageable. Also, I'm interested in the full lock set (ignition, fuel cap, helmet lock).

PM would be great. Thanks!
