97 vfr front end wash out.

Lost the front tire to gravel in a curve last week at 45mph and insurance totaled it out so was seeing if there would be any interest in the parts or whole bike. Engine has just under 19k or a few over, new plugs, oil, kn air filter, zero gravity screen, clutch and brake fluids bled/changed within 2 weeks. Battery is 2 months old, 2 bros exhaust.

Now the bad. Damage is mainly on left side with fairings shot, Rear fairings and tail light damaged along with right side fairing broken tab in rear, shifter is bent but still works(rode it home afterwords) couple chips in gas tank and will try to get some pictures up shortly. Insurance set the keep price at $1397 and I just wanted to offer it to anyone near mid michigan if interested. I'm fine either way with the numbers they gave me so if there isn't interest no big deal.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you came out of it ok. I am sure that some peeps would be interested if you parted it out.

Any plans for another bike (that is, any brand, just another bike)?

Sorry to hear this. Glad you are alright.
Any thoughts on rebuilding her? Or are you ready for a nice Yellow 5th gen?

Unfortunately I pulled the squid move and wasn't wearing pants or gloves so my knee got split down to the kneecap and my left hand is rashed up pretty good for a total of 57 sutures and I'll be on crutches for at least another week. Of course where my gear was I didn't get so much as a scratch so from now on ATGATT for me.

I'll be looking at another bike before next season starts and have definitely considered the 5th gen, or possibly a cbr f4i but haven't really researched those. My main focus is reliability and comfort is nice but I realized I dont spend over 250 miles a day when I ride and do more of a commute/pleasure cruising in the corners so possibly going with a less comfortable but lighter bike may be in my future.

Bottom line is that things could have been a lot worse and I'm taking it all in as a painful lesson to always wear the gear because I now see what happens without it and I'd gladly spend triple the money now to have been able to avoid these wounds.

Well, I am glad to hear that you are realitively ok, except for some scratches, and sutures. At least you realize how important gear is now. We all have lessons that we learn. Glad you lived thru the accident to talk about it, and learn from it.

Speedy recovery, and good luck on the new bike search.

Thanks for the kind words and I am pretty sure it is just deep superficial injuries so full recovery is likely within the next 3 weeks.

I also got a phone call saying that the keep price was a mistake and that it would be $1397 not $1597 so I may end up keeping it and parting it out even if someone doesn't want the whole bike.

Sorry, for your loss. I'd be interested in the front wheel, axle and rotors (it might fit my 1993, and give me floating rotors). My VFR was a total loss 3 years ago, and the buy back price was 100 dollars, no lie, I was amazed.

Good luck
Robert

Man sorry you learned this the hard way.. Hmm I'd make it a fixer upper, for another grand you'd have a nice bike again.

If the bike was stock the buyback would have been about 850. If I knew where I could find all new plastics for 7 or 800 I'd rebuild her but the only fairings that don't need to be replaced are the right side and right front. The problem for me is that both rear fairings, tail light, and rear side fairings were all broken even before the accident so the money needed to fix the parts damaged in the accident are equal to what was already damaged/lost from broken tabs. The shifter and bar end are a cheap easy fix and engine is strong but I don't think I'll be riding anymore this year because of the short season. I'll have twice as much to spend if I wait and buy one over the winter so a couple years newer with clear title would be possible.

As much as I hate to do it, right now I'm leaning towards starting with a clean slate as it is hard for me to know it's sitting in the garage and I won't be able to turn a wrench for at least a month or two so parting out would take some time.

Interested in the zero grav. screen. If dark smoke.
Also the half moon piece of the rear fairing if not broken.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Glad you are OK for the most part!! If you decide to part her out I would be interested in a few things if you have them. Passenger grab handles, if you have a corbin seat I would be interested, and also the middle upper faring between the headlights if not damaged. Sorry again for your loss. But being able to tell us about it afterwards is priceless. Let me know what you decided and maybe I will think of some other items as well. Mike

Found a 99 with 15k miles and a corbin seat for $3600 and another for $3800 so it looks like I won't be keeping or parting out my 97. Had thought winter prices would be lower but I can definitely work with these kinds of numbers.

Ended up deciding just to sign the bike over. I started it up to see if everything was fine the other day and it sounded rough and started smoking so it made the decision pretty easy for me. I apologize to anyone interested in the parts but without the engine and almost all the fairings it didn't make sense to me to rebuild or try to part out. Will be looking for another bike in a month or so and most likely will be a 5th gen.

I took off the K&N filter and ebc hh rear pads that were only a few days old so if those aren't compatible with my next bike those will be up for sale and they only have 50 miles or less on them.
