93 Life Expectancy

I'm currently the owner of a '89 Yamaha FJ1200. I've owned it for three years and have it setup about as sporty as the thing will allow without major suspension swaps. I like grinding the hell out of the pegs on track days and pissing off my buddies on newer bikes. I Love the bike, but, I'm looking for somthing a bit newer and lighter.

I've always liked the VFR all the way back to the late '80's. I'm negotiating with a local guy who has a '93, setup for sport touring (bags and all) with just under 50k miles on it. My FJ has 50k on it and runs absolutley perfectly. I've read about guys on the FJ boards with over 100k on their bikes without opening up the motor (ofcourse not everyone has this experience). Assuming you take resonable care of the VFR what should one expect from the motor?

The charging issues with the VFR are well documented but is there anything else one should watchout for?

Anyone had experience with both the VFR and FJ care to compaire and contrast?

Thanks all for you input in advance.
Bernie

Re: 93 Life Expectancy

Just buy a motor off of ebay and throw it in.. i believe even the 1994-1997 motors fit the 1990-1993 setup.

its worth buying a vfr. its got the power. it growls and it runs for ever.

i'm gonna be buying a motor that has low miles and throw it in. shouldn't be hard and should cost around 500CDN or 350 USD.

Good Luck!
