Hwy 1 Nov 2007 Paso Robles-Big Sur

Hello all. Gather round. Grab your lids and make sure to put on your long handles.

It's a chilly Saturday morning when we load of the trusty old VFR. This is Scratch's first trip with her new skin. As some of you know, she recently turned 50 and like other california girls, 50 is the time for a facelift. Now she's sporting almost all new red and feeling more confident. Soon she'll get her new legs and then she'll really feel sporty. Anyway, we drop off Justen, our birthday boy, and jump on the bike and head out from Paso Robles.
Not many pics of the start, but we'll take a break up here near San Simeon and snap a couple pics for you.

In the next pic, you can see Terri back by the fence and in the pic after that you'll see what she was looking at down below. Just behind her there is the Piedras Blancas ligthhouse but I don't think you can see it from the pic.

Those aren't rocks. Those are seals showing just how rough they have it....

There were a couple out playing in the water, but their pics didn't come out well because the full zoom on the cell phone doesn't do action.

Back to the bike. We are only 40 miles or so from Paso at this point so we need to get some miles behind us. As stated, it was a bit chilly, but better than expected considering we were cruising along Hwy 1 in and out of the fog. Picture, if you will, a leisurely left-right-left gliding through wispy clouds in and out of sunny patches. Just when you think you are gonna freeze and can't take it any more, BAM, another sunny patch to rejuvenate you and bring out a smile. Back to the dance, left-right-left. Hear the purr of the V4. Wow! My mileage is awesome at this pace. We continue up following the flow of the road as she climbs up through the clouds, past Ragged Point wrapped in fog. There's not much traffic today considering it's the weekend and most that are there scoot to the side to let us flow by. You need a picture...

Back on the bike we go, back down through the clouds, back up again. The condensation covers my faceshield, my bones chill. My temp gauge show 67. Can that be right? It must be the moisture. Let's get another pic after we find a sunny spot.

In the above picture, we have just escaped the clouds. The next 2 shots are take from the same ledge and the second one is take looking down over the ledge. As you can see, the clouds were in constant flux while we rode.

Ah, now we must roll on. Back on the VFR. We continue our steady pace up through Big Sur and past Monterrey (sp?) Terri has a taste for some artichokes, so it's to the giant artichoke in Castroville for us. From there it's a slab run all the way to San Mateo to grab our room and get to the show.

I hope you enjoyed your journey into Reg's World once again. As always the invitation is open to all my brothers and sisters on 2 wheels. Come on out and we'll do the tours that other's charge money for...

Peace...

Great write up Reg, I miss Hwy 1 and the local produce that California has? So did you finally get to meet Michael?

Shock update, Reg purchased the shocks from my local guy and saved a lot of money on the parts, I mailed them with Insurance and conformation from the local Post office on Oct. 25 and they should have arrived in Atascadero no later than Oct. 29, they were lost somewhere between Washington & California in the USPO system, on November 25 I can go back to the Post office and get the insurance money and start the whole process all over again...
