    Moving to Saskatoon

    Hi,

In 3 month, I'll leave Quebec because i'm relocated to Saskatoon for my job. I'll bring the bike with me for sure!

I read a lot of websites and wanted to know if I understood right.

Insurance for the bike in included in the plates in Saskatchewan? It means that it costs ~1150$ to have the bike full covered with theft and plated?

Can someone help me with that?

Dude, leaving Montreal for Saskatoon? Bummer... (OK, never been to Saskatoon, but I love Montreal!)

You're right, the permit registration there does indeed include insurance, which is run by the province there. The guy I bought my bike from was from there originally. Can't say how much he was paying, but he said it was a hell of a lot cheaper than in Ontario. I'll e-mail and ask him for a dollar amount.

Here's what he replied: "In Saskatchewan I had the seca 750 and insurance for that, which includes plates, was 400 or something like that. It was a few years ago so I'm a little foggy on the details."

I think I'm going to Saskatooooooon,
that's really, really where I'm going to.
If I ever get out of here,
    that's what I'm gonna do.

    S-S-S-S-S-S-S-Saskatoon,
    I think that's where I'm going to.
If I ever get out of here,
    I'm going to Saskatoooooooooon.

    I got no kick against the west coast;
Warner Brothers are such good hosts.
I raise my whiskey glass and give them a toast,
I'm sure they know it's true.
I got no rap against the southern states.
Every time I've been there it's been great.
But now I'm leaving and I can't be late
    and to myself be true.

That's why I'm going to Saskatoooooooooon,
up to the mountains where I'm going to.
And if I ever get out of here,
    that's what I'm gonna do.
    S-S-S-S-S-Saskatooooooon,
that's really, really where I'm going to,
oh, if I ever get out of here I'm going to Saskatoooooooooon

I got no quarrel with the midwest,
the folks out there have given me their best.
I lived there all my life, I've been their guest,
I sure have loved it, too.

I'm tired of looking at the TV news.
I'm tired of driving hard and paying dues.
I figure, baby, I've got nothing to lose,
    I'm tired of being blue.

That's why I'm going to Saskatoooooooooon,
up to the mountains where I'm going to.
If I ever get out of here,
    that's what I'm gonna do.

    S-S-S-S-S-S-Saskatoon,
take me, baby, 'cause I'm going with you.
If I ever get out of here
    I'm going to Saskatoooooooooon.

I ain't got nothing 'gainst the east coast.
You want some people where they got the most.
And new york city's like a friendly ghost,
you seem to pass right through.

I know I'm gonna miss the USA.
I guess I'll miss it every single day.
But no one loves me here anyway.
I know my playing is through.

That's why I'm going to Saskatoooooooooon,
up to the mountains where I'm going to.
If I ever get out of here,
    that's what I'm gonna do.

    S-S-S-S-S-Saskatoon,
    really, really going to,
if I ever get out of here,
if I ever get out of here,
if I ever get out of here,
    I'm going to Saskatoooooooooon.

In fact, I'm moving there to learn english. I want to be more fluent and th only way to achieve this is to move in an english environment.

I'll miss Montreal for sure but I consider this an "investment" for my engineering career.

Saskatoon isn't so bad. I got my Engineering degree there and I loved it. As far as the riding season goes, it may be shorter than some but 4 months is BS. I am in Lloydminster now (Northwest of Saskatoon) and generally take the bike out mid April and park it for the season mid to late October which is a good 6 months. That said, it is unseasonably warm here today, so I might just go out this afternoon.

    Cheers

Hey..There is good! You have a easy ride and you are in sight of the Rockies and the best riding in Canada(BC)... Saskabush is out on the bald Prairie alright..you will find the winter a jolt from Montreal..Just learn to dress right and no big deal...you will not be thrilled riding those roads after a while, but exploring new ground will still make it fun for a while. One thing is Sask was just getting into a real big boom(like all the west) just before the recession, and it will come back strong shortly. Seems they found its full of that black goo! :) The future and money is out west so a good place to try out now! Hope you have a great time, and take some holidays and get out to BC!!
Hey, you coulda been sent to Winnipeg!!

    Hey DX92,

I ride a 1995 VFR and live in Saskatoon. SGI, the license issuer for the province, lumps together the insurance and the registration as one. They have two payment options: annually, and monthly. Be warned that the monthly registration is an automatic withdrawal from your bank account, so be sure to cancel it for the completely unrideable months. The monthly is very easy to reactivate in the spring, though, and I think it works out the same as plating it annually.

My insurance came in to about $74 per month, before upping the rates in November by $20 or so.SGI took into account a couple things:

    1. I'm an "irresponsible" twenty-year-old that has no regard for speed limits (in their mind, at least!)
    2. I have a safe driving record, no accidents (knock on wood) which entitled me to a 10% discount.

So you're looking around $95 per month as a ballpark estimate.

Here's a link to the SGI Rate Calculator, hope it helps. SGI classifies the VFR as "MC Sport" when you enter the vehicle type.

    Rate Change Calculator - SGI

There are some great routes in and around the city, hope you enjoy your stay!

    Cheers.

    Stuke,

Give me some of what you are smoking. Saskatoooooon is flat as pee on a plate with the foam blowed off.

    I'm worried about you.
