Scorpion Carbon Fiber Oval Slip On

I purchased this from http://www.metricbikes-superstore.co...8b4a5340df6cd0 for $365 delivered. I was planning to get a Staintune but I couldn't find any in stock anywhere & the cheapest I found was $475 + shipping. The Scorpion replaced my TBR pipe (reveiwed here:Two Brothers Racing C4 Round Titanium Slip On) which was a total POS & basically fell apart over the course of 4 years.

Pros:
looks good (after seeing both, I now think oval pipes look better than round)
sounds good (makes a nice bark all the way thru to redline)
ridiculously easy to install (any slip on for the 5th Gen is easy to install)
never needs re-packing (packing is made from steel wool)
fits like it should (no rubbing & plenty of clearance everywhere)
AWESOME customer service (see below)
decal is removeable (just in case you don't want to be free advertising)
fit & finish (for the most part, this is a well built product, top shelf SS clamp & hardware, muffler band fits correctly, etc)

Cons:
price (I think most aftermarket pipes are overpriced, like I said, I wanted Staintune but $500 for a muffler is ridiculous)
fit & finish (The pipe is very solid & the rivets are tight but there was a slight blemish in the CF so I called Scorpion. They said they would send me a new one free of charge AND pay for the shipping of the old one. I never bothered since the blemish was barely noticable & they said it would take probably a month for the entire transfer to take place. If you look at the photo, you can't notice it. The blemish is about 2" back from the band clamp.)
rivets holding on end caps (automatically creates a weak link)

I'm more than happy with it & would recommend this can to others.

you're bitching about $475? The systems for the 6th gen are around the $1000 mark. I'll trade prices with ya!

So, any follow up comments on the Scorpion? I was thinking of getting one, but really only question the sound. I have heard they are ok, but not great. Comment?

The Scorpion has since migrated to my 89 Honda Hawk GT & has been replaced by a Staintune. The Scorpion definitely sounds better than TBR & is a better product. If I had to go back & do it all over again, I would go straight to Staintune & never look back. Since I've had 5 pipes on my bike & have heard many more on many different machines, I can offer the following.

If you are looking for (all of this is for 5th Gens):

music to your ears = Staintune (you simply need to hear it once & you will understand)

sheer volume/loudness of sound = D&D (make no mistake, these things are LOUD)

deepest tone = Micron (sounds like Flowmaster car mufflers)

Others I can recommend are Scorpion & M4. Not too many people have heard of or have used M4. I've swapped it on & off my VFR several times & it was the primary muffler on the Hawk for 4 years & it sounds quite good indeed. In fact, I think the M4 sounds better than the Scorpion.

Thanks, that is just the type of information for which I was looking. So many of these threads have people posting they like one better because they own only that exhaust.

Cheers!

Whatever you get, make sure you take photos & post a review. Just because one person likes a pipe doesn't mean everyone else will.

Pretty much no difference in MPG between any of the pipes. All 4 I've used give a slight bump from stock. I'm currently averaging 47-48 MPG. I set a new personal best mileage of 49.89 MPG 2 weeks ago.

I haven't tuned for any of them. I haven't noticed any performance increase with any of the 4, it's a simple looks & sound thing.

I've been shopping for a Micron high mount for my yellow gen 5, but can't make up my mind on the carbon fiber versus the anodized silver/black fade. Anyone know if there is a difference in sound?

Micron stopped making motorcycle mufflers this summer, so you may have to shop around to find anything left over. I am 99% sure you won't find a new high mount Micron in any material, but a few vendors I spoke with did have a few assorted standard mount Microns available.

As far as the sound, I have done a lot of reading and it seems there is a difference in sound with the CF being deeper. I heard a stainless Micron high mount in person and liked the sound a lot!

I did manage to find a website that still lists the micron high mounts...whether or not they actually still have any is the only question. Still waiting to hear back from them because of the holiday.
