Hi Folks,
The more I ride the bike, the more I love it.
But I need to fix this 1st and 2nd gear fueling hesitation.
Is the Z-Bomb the solution?
Will it affect the reliability/integrity of the bike at all?
Is it good to use just by itself or does it require a PCV and mapping?
If you buy a PCV and have a custom map made, do you still need a Z-bomb?
The Bazzazz post here suggests to use the Z-Bomb AND something such as a PC. What's the point of having the Z-Bomb if you are controlling the mapping with a PC?
How did you guys go about fixing these issues?
I have limited knowledge in this regards so thanks for helping out! :-)

I am looking at getting either the SW Motech with Givi attachment or Givi Rack. Since I have other bikes in my garage and have Givi Monokey bags already I probably won't be going to the OE Honda route.

Thanks.

Well my local Honda does. I have a Garmin Zumo 550 that I am trying to get working on my Honda VFR1200. Honda have now had three goes at fitting this thing.

1st time. They did not put the cradle in place. Honda just connected up the power lead. I got it home, put in the cradle, connected the GPS lead and GPS and nothing.... the bike would not even start. I disconnected the mains cable from the cradle and the bike fired up....
2nd time. I took the bike back. They moved the lead and told me all was good. They were having to press the on button on the GPS to get it to come on. It was now using the internal on the GPS. I had asked them to intall it so that the GPS will come on only when the ignition is turned on. I do not want the battery to be drained.
3rd time. They are now saying the GPS is faulty. If I connect the GPS to the car using the 12V cable and cradle then all is well.

Have you installed one of these? Where did you connect it to? Some Honda dealers suck......... Mainly the one in Calgary... Rocky Mountain bloody Honda...
Thanks
Ian

I had this working on my 2008 VFR800 with no probs..... wires are now different from 2008... who would have thought.

The fever is high and people are ready to buy, and I am sure Honda is aware of this. So where are the 2012 vfr's. Has any one seen one yet, or are they really going to import them here into the United States?

I put the Two Brothers exhaust on the Big Viffer last weekend. NOW it sounds like a motorcycle. No more sneaking around on a sewing machine.

It isn't obnoxious at low RPM. It has a nice growl to it. Once you wind it up above 5k it sounds like an F1 car. That is a very nice exhaust note. :-)

The quality and craftsmanship seem fine. I didn't notice any obvious flaws. The carbon fiber looks great and the anodixed hardware is a nice touch.

The only complaint I have (echoed by admirers) is that the exhaust can hides that sexy swingarm. Too bad Honda couldn't route the tailpipes like the old VFR800 to show that off. I'm considering a MotoGP mod. Just some short trumpets down low. That will probably roast my feet though...

At least I have that giant chrome stock exhaust off of there. I wasn't a fan of the flapper valve either.

Later,

Like I said earlier, it's high quality, bought via the UK importer and it only took 9 weeks to get here. They had said 3-4 months.
It's also heated but not with the same kind of thermostat that my gloves have: that one (Baehr) just gives you full blast when you switch it on, making your hands nice and warm after a stop for fuel or something. Then it goes to its normal setting which you can change to higher or lower with a switch and a LED indicator.
So no, the Corbin seat just heats up until after 10 minutes you want to switch it off. I wanted the heater coz in winter my bike always had ice on the seat after a late shift.

However how Corbin thinks bike owners like to connect their electric accessories is baffling: you take off the fuse box lid, pull out the 'acc' fuse and put their connector in there. It has its own fuse but sits much higher than your lid allows so it won't close anymore no matter what. For this they say just put your lid on loosely and use the rain cover supplied with the seat. The result is pathetic so I'll be changing that as soon as I had a chance.

I kept the design very simple. The top is leather and the sides are vinyl. That chrome or stainless steel ornament on the switch looks gay so it has to go. Not being homophobic, it's just that this bike isn't a Harley.

Attempting pics...Ah I need to make them smaller. D'oh!

Hey,

it's been a long time since I posted. Didn't have a reason to post, really.
So now I just thought I'd let you know what I think of the Honda after 2 winters of commuting.

Latest mod:
Corbin heated seat. Ordered in the UK. Much cheaper than here or in Germany. Seat sits fine, heating works, overall finish good.
Corbin's way of connecting to the fusebox: terrible. You get a rain cover for the fusebox as you can't close the lid anymore. Clearly not their strongest point so I'll be changing that first chance I get.
But it works and even through my thermal lining I can feel it.
2 reasons I bought it: I was tired of the seat being covered in ice at work and I got a sore bottom faster than my bro-in-law's Street Triple R on long day rides.

Finally found a competent dealer who could fix that seized rear preload adjustment under warranty and do a 16k mile service. I never do this myself for tax reasons.
He ended up putting in a brand new shock (retail 1200 Euro) and a new knob as I had put vice grips on that after the first winter, all geared up for a two-up ride.
He also put on Michelin Pilot Power 2CT's which haven't seen a dry day since then.
The OE tires/tyres were Dunlop Roadsmarts, replaced after 8k miles. So I put another 8k on the Pilot Road 2CT's which I always liked but wanted something else.
He found a seized piston in one of the front calipers, something he couldn't understand was never picked up by either of the other dealers. New pads EBC HH. I like them better than OE. They work on some bikes and not on others as I've found and they'll probably wear faster but I don't care about that.

The finest mod to date was the Sato reverse shift part. After a year of riding street pattern I was still getting it wrong. After all, I've been riding reverse pattern on all my bikes for almost 30 years now.

Biggest gripe: the restriction in 1st and 2nd gear. It's not too bad in winter when staying upright is the most important part of the day but when weather clears it's bloody annoying and I was checking out the blog earlier to see how to change the wiring. Then I saw the Bazzaz ad and just pulled out the credit card. This was 10 minutes ago.

Other issues: Rust! Some bolts that have never been touched before have been rusting and the base plate of the (expensive!) top box is rusting badly too. I'll have to re-paint that and source some stainless steel bolts for the footrest assembly bolts. For what I paid and this being the 21st century, I think it's unacceptable.

I've been parting out my Aprilia Futura and been getting a lot of laughs from old friends on the Aprilia forum because I have a Honda. I usually answer this bike has no connection with the 750 or 800 and they should never have called it VFR. That's my opinion anyway.

They're rare even here and they're now priced 2k euro less than when I bought mine. Ah well. Such is life.

I love the thing. I couldn't have made a better choice considering the alternatives.
