Fellow VFR's, Friend of mine T-boned a deer last night (he thinks he had slowed down to about 50) and woke up surrounded by First Responders and a crowd of onlookers.
He saw the deer coming up out of a ditch and just had time to touch his brakes.
He was wearing a riding suit, boots, gloves, and full face helmet, and his injuries in total are a cracked collarbone and a scratch on his arm where his suit wore through on the pavement.
No concussion (helmet is all scratched up), or serious injuries.
While I know how "Cool" it is to ride without gear, it takes less than a second for your life to change forever. Having a severe brain injury, or spending your life in a wheelchair due to a stupid decision is not cool, so even if you don't care about your own safety, think of those you love, those you are responsible for, and those of us who will end up paying your bills, if you make the wrong decision.
All the gear, all the time.

Purchased an Alpinestar textile jacket when I got my bike and I have to say it was a great choice, the jacket has really good venting for hot summer days and an nice zip out liner that's warm enough for the 40 deg mornings that we get here in Georgia.

So far I'd have to say all the Alpinestar gear is well made, I'll be picking up a pair of their gloves soon.

Here is a picture of the newer style, mine is from last year but I got a good deal from the local cycle shop.

When I bought my VFR the original owner threw in a XL Arai Quantum/f helmet. I could have had my pick of a few spare helmets he had but the Arai had a really nice fit. However, the chin strap was a bit frayed on the end and wouldn't snap to lock down the loose end, a minor annoyance. I called Arai Customer Service and was told it would be $30 to replace the strap. Not a big deal but it also meant I wouldn't have use of the helmet for 2-4 wks.

Well, I was thinking about getting a nicer helmet anyway, the Quantum/f is nice but it doesn't have some of the newer features of today's models. I went to the local cycle shop and tried on several models including an Arai Corsair V, Shoie X-Eleven, and several others from Scorpion and Shark. Each time I put on a brand other than the Arai the helmet just didn't as nice as the Arai. So I purchased the Corsair V. So I go home unpack the new helmet and go for a ride. OMFG! The helmet is noisy as hell! Much, much louder than my old Quantum/F, I closed the vents and it helped but it only took one ride and knew this was not the helmet for me. So I returned it and kept using the Quanum/F a while longer while looking for something else.

I looked at a couple other bike shops and while down in Florida on vacation I try on a Quantum 2, great fit, fewer (noisy) vents and the price was $200 cheaper. So I bought it along with a silver tinted shield. First test ride and I knew it was a much better choice for me. The helmet fit is superb, materials are first rate, and it's even quieter than my old Quantum/f.

Then I checked Arai's website and saw they announced the new RX-Q. Maybe I should have waited after all.

I am looking around for a GPS unit for my bike. I am currently using Google Maps or Yahoo Maps to plan some of my day trips around in San Francisco bay area. There are lots of small roads and I want to be able to use a number of way points for each trip. Does anyone have recommendations for a GPS units that is that can easily import way point from i.e. Google, Yahoo or other software? It does not need to be motorcycle specific GPS unit.
Cheers.

Anyone looking for a Christmas Gift for the S.O.? I have a brand new Joe Rocket ladies armored leather jacket, size Medium in sky blue. Has removable liner, also. A really, really nice jacket with serious crash protection and good looks. I don't buy crap; this jacket listed for 3 bills. Will sell for $90 plus shipping.

I took the tags off but I do have them. I jumped the gun and bought it for my then-girlfriend who I thought would be into riding. She wasn't so she isn't. Thanks.

2003 VFR 800

Is there a preferred top case rack that would work with/around the factory saddle bag brackets? The givi top case seems to bolt to the same spot as the saddle bags so I'm concerned that they're not compatible. Coocase's website is really vague (and I've never heard of them) so I'm a little hesitant about them as well. Are there any other companies out there? I'm new to the top case game.

Also, does anyone have any experience with this top case?

2002-2004 Honda Interceptor VFR Sport Touring Trunk - Red

The description says red and it's a bit pricey, but if it's an OEM red color and fits flawlessly, I'd be willing to consider it.

Thanks.

OK, so i've never been one to wear riding gear, but figure I'm at the point in my life where i should start being a bit more cautious. Normally I ride in either shorts or jeans, and either a t-shirt or button up shirt, and always ride in open toe slip-on sandals  I know...I'm freakin nuts.

Well, I ordered a leather replica Repsol Red/white/blue coat with removable pads and liner and a set of blue and black Pilot gloves that will match the coat nicely, and I have a really nice new matte black rubberized helmet that my woman got me for Christmas last year that was supposed to be for my dirt track racing but was too nice to waste so I kept it put up and will now be using it with the bike.

My question is this...What kind of pants and footwear should I get? I need something on the cheaper price end, but nothing that's low quality. Should I get a pair of lined jeans, or more of a racing style pant? And riding boots, or just a good pair of tennis shoes? And since I ride thru the winters here in Arkansas, I definitely want something that will help slow the freezing process lol
