My gas tank has a couple small dents that with small holes that leak gas. Basically I'm wondering if Bondo will hold up on a repair where it will be in contact with gasoline? I was originally planning to get a new ebay tank, but mine is actually in perfect shape except for the 2 small dents that happen to leak a little gas when the tank is full.

I have an '86 VFR and I purchased some '87 handlebars to replace the left clutch handle, both reservoirs, clutch indicator switch, and right brake cylinder. I installed them both and as I was going to plug in the wire bundle from the left handlebar I found it didn't fit. However, I put the old one back on since there was really nothing wrong with it. The right side now has the controls from the '87. I think it might even have been a 750, whereas I have a 700.

Now my dash lights and tail lights do not work. Has anyone used the controls from an '87 on an '86?

alrighty.

So on the tail of all the RR troubles people have been having lately I was struck with it...My 86 VFR700 went down with it. I first thought it was the Stator so with a quick call to the parts Fairy a "new" stator was sitting in the mail box. replaced that and still had no voltage out put to the battery much to my dismay...

The following months (yes I said months) I spent trying to find an R/R to replace the original one with.... this yeilded many put folks wanted from one hundred up to 150 bucks for a used one and new one respectively.
a few phone calls and some searching TOECUTTER found one off of a first gen CBR the plugs lined up and the only difference is the CBR has a ground wire that I had to find a place to bolt it to. as far as fit goes the bolt holes lined up perfect to the original holes and the only thing I had to "modify" and that was the inner fender air hole I guess it is. I had to carve it back a little bit.

As far as readings go I can't give exact one but when I installed it I was onr the phone with TOECUTTER and gave hin the readings I was pulling and they were all within spec. it did get warm but I could place my hand on it for a short period of time.

It's been a week and I have rode the VFR for about 600 miles maybe, and the battery is not heating up and there are no issues with the RR.
This RR apparently grows on trees as it is the same for the magna and the sabre. so it is much less on the wallet.

Cheers

My bike - '02 VFR ABS - I'm about 208 lbs.
Brother's bike - '08 VFR non-ABS - he's about 188 lbs.

His bike is consistently 3-4 mpg better off than mine when we go out on rides together. We thought his riding style (more tucked behind the windscreen in what he calls his "Superman position" while I'm upright in the wind more often) made the difference, but I tried to mimic his style for a 75 mile Interstate ride today and only eeked out an extra mile per gallon versus another freeway only stint yesterday.

I get about 36 mpg and he gets anywhere from 39 to 40 mpg. I got 36.9 mpg today on that 75 mile ride being very judicious with the throttle and only getting into VTEC 2 different times for maybe a grand total of 45 seconds on an hour ride.

My bike also runs cooler by 20-30 degrees. And my bike is a harder to start (crank longer before it fires, best case...maybe give it a little throttle to get it to fire, worst case) compared to his. Lastly, we noticed that my bike has a lot more white smoke that smells like gas on first cold start than his.

So I'm beginning to wonder if my bike is running rich, too rich, or if this sounds normal. Surely a 20 pound weight difference wouldn't case this, would it? That's only about a 3-3.5% increase in the total bike and rider weight.

Thanks for weighing in...

-John

I'm doing a clutch job on the '99 I picked up a couple weeks ago. The clutch slipped badly at anything above 1/2 throttle at 6k+ RPM. The bike has just under 19k miles on it. I got bought a used 6k mile clutch from another member (Thanks Steven113!) as a replacement.

I just drained the oil to get started. Guess what? It had almost 6 quarts in it!!! I pulled the clutch plates out and they all look fine. The fiber plates look exactly the same as my replacements. Could having DOUBLE the oil in the crankcase cause the clutch to slip?? It was probably just about submerged!

I'm still going to throw the new clutch in to be sure but I honestly was expecting the original to be toast so now I'm a little confused.

Any thoughts?

However, my question is this... does it actually improve performance or do people think that it improves performance? Has anybody ever truly answered this question?

Well, I've finally taken the plunge and am sending my forks to Race Tech tomorrow to have gold valves, new springs, oil, seals, bushings, etc. installed. I'm sick of the crappy stock suspension. I'm also buying an Elka shock or refurbishing a 929 shock (new spring, valves, and oil). Haven't decided that yet. Here are some pics of the neutered bike.

started the bike up yesterday in the garage and let it run till it warmed up, i noticed a smell of antifreeze, and then notice a couple of drops of coolant on the ground. looks to be coming from the water pump area, i havent really gotten to get a good look at it since the bike is tucked in the back of the garage at the moment. this week ill pull the fairing off and try to locate where its coming from. but is this somewhat of a common problem? i heard sometimes the entire pump needs replaced.

shes got about 38k miles on her now, so the whole pump might need replaced.
