Been ridin the Vif a lot and lov-in it, everything, except the WIND NOISE! Also researching everything and any-thing I could try to help the loud BUZZ above 60 mph. I was to the point of just cutting down the screen or removing-it:crazy: Comming from a naked, the air stream is very Quiet....If I stick my head way above the screen its quiet. I have been sporting my $500 BellStar carbon fiber helmet,(it fits me great)on all my rides... Sunday I thought I would try my $110 GMax lid just for kicks. I was amazed,, much quieter, not perfect but better, certainly livable. Tried the "STAR" again today, same loud booming. I dont think its the windscreen, its the darn helmet! I like the GMax but it has a lot of "lift" and it's fit is not as good and its not as lite. How do you figure these things out without buying seven different helmets and five different screens?....I need a new HELMET! PS.. I always wear 30db earplugs../.....Thoughts???

My neighbors think I'm nuts. The ride home from work today was 31 degrees but people who don't ride don't understand that the joy of the ride outweighs any minor discomfort. With the right gear it's not that bad. Today I wore my heavy-weight Sliders Kevlar-lined jeans under my flannel-lined LL Bean khakis, thermal undershirt, shirt/tie (occupational hazard), sweater and my lined river road leather jacket (my Cortech 3/4 touring jacket is warmer but a little too ostentatious for the office) .

Rode 43 miles and the only chill at all was the air coming in under my helmet; I keep a balacvala in my top case for that if it gets too cold. The only other bike that I saw on the road today was a guy gassing up his older Ninja; wearing just a thin jacket, no gloves and no lid leads me to believe that he was heading right back home. Probably topping it off for its annual winter hiatus.

I stopped at the grocery store on the way home and as I got off the bike a woman pushing her cart stopped and asked if I was cold; she said they had put up their Boulevard for the winter already. I told her that was too bad; that there was still some good riding to be had, as long as you invest in the right equipment. Just then, the shopping cart rounder-upper guy sauntered over and asked what the bike was ('04). Said he used to ride but is too broke right now and had to sell his last bike. Staring at the bike he looked pretty wistful; probably remembering some good rides and good friends. Complimented my bike and walked away, riding herd on a shopping cart train.

There is a local Beemer GS rider who is out year-round; on more than one occasion I've seen him blasting through slushy roads of Portland, Maine right after a snow storm; his hi-vis yellow Olympia jacket is so bright it probably melts a path through the slush for him. My co-workers who have seen him think he is also crazy.

If you don't ride, you don't understand the compulsion to ride that overtakes most of us after a few days away...or the compulsion to walk up to complete strangers and share for a few moments the common bond of riding. They don't know what they are missing...

Need some advice. My fleet consists of a mint 1982 CB900F and a mint 1999 VFR 800.

However, I winterize them and don't ride during the winter. I got to thinking that having a bike that is reliable, pretty fun to ride in general, could maybe handle gravel roads easily, and I could ride throughout the winter when the roads were pretty much dry without cringing when I got salt all over it would be cool.

I was limiting my search to Honda Transalps but it's been bit of a struggle finding one.

I am partial to Honda's but would consider opening up to other things. V-storms?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi:

I'm trying to choose between a new '08 CBR1000RR and a '08 VFR800. Both are new left overs and are priced similarly. I've been riding since 1970 and the hottest bike I own is a '95 CB1000 (the monster). I want the CBR but think the VFR would fit my needs better. Why do you ride a VFR? Pro's and con's?

I recently picked up a set of used harbags for my VFR. I knew they weren't perfect when I got them and planned on painting them to match my bike...

I recently picked up a set of used harbags for my VFR. I knew they weren't perfect when I got them and planned on painting them to match my bike anyway. One of the things that bugged me is that they had been repained in the past and when he did it, the Interceptor logos were not placed back on the bags. I like the looks of them so I set forth to track down a pair to put back on the bags for when I paint them. I also knew one of the clips for the elastic straps on the inside was missing and one of the reflectors was a little scratched up and figured I would try and get replacements for those as well.

My local honda dealer tried to look em up but couldn't order any parts for the bags. Through my extensive search trying to track down some bags, I found out that Givi made the bags. Calling Givi USA wasn't much use. They can help if you have lock problems but that is about it. Honda International struck a deal with Givi France, and they really don't have any access to the parts.

This led me to call Honda North America to see what I could come up with. When I spoke with the guy at Honda N.A. I explained that I had bought the bike used, the bags used, and that I needed some replacement parts. He knew exactly who to call and see what could be done, placed me on hold, and gave the guy a call. When he came back he said he knew for sure that they had a set of the logos and would go hand pick them and send them out. The others they would try to track down and after they could confirm what they could and could not send me, he would personally give me a call back.

Two hours later I receive a call back from the same guy. He said they couldn't track down a reflector or the clip, but did have the logos. No big deal because I am pretty sure I can buff out the reflector's scratches and I know that I can buy the clip at just about any fabric store. Now I'm expecting to pay for all of this and I was figuring about $10 per Interceptor logo and about $10 for shipping so $30 in all. Much to my amazement, he said that they were coming free of charge. I could understand this had I bought the bike new or bought the bags new, but did not expect it at all considering Honda hasn't made a dime from any of my bike or accessory purchases. Yeah... Honda North America freakin rocks! This was Thursday last week and he said to expect them in 5-7 business days.

Much to my amazement, they show up today while I'm in the shower... three business days later. Luckily the mailman left the box outside the door and I didn't have to go get the package. I opened it up and not only are the Interceptor logos in the box, but there are two pairs of them. Wow... I didn't think you could still get customer support like this these days. Thanks Honda N.A.... you freakin rock!

I highly suggest that if anyone needs something they can't get taken care of through a local deal such as this, to give Honda N.A. a call. They will get you taken care of

Ok so in a moment of distraction, I came within an inch of dropping my bike.
I stopped on a just-not-quite-level parking lot and was adjusting my gear when the bike shifted left.
I literally caught the bike and dead lifted it back onto it's tires.

The only true damage I can see is I broke the 'curb feeler' off the bottom of the left foot peg.

Here's where the paranoia kicks in. The only scratch I can find on the bike is the side of the left ground pad for the center stand. However I keep looking and thinking the left passenger peg bracket is now riding closer than the right passenger peg bracket.
I cannot find any evidence that it contacted the ground (scratches, cracks in the paint).

Does this bracket normally look a little closer than the other? Is it my mind playing tricks on me? I'll probably go up to the dealer tomorrow as they still have another on the floor I can compare it to.

Anyone out there confirm I'm just nuts :crazy:before I go look foolish in front of the dealer?

Thanks.

Ok, so I had to get a new front tire. (Metzeler. Also on back tire) I was in a rush to get to Houston, and the tech at the Honda shop talked me into getting a different type of tire balanceing. Both front and back tire. I told him I didn't care as long as I can have the bike by the end of the day. It cost the same price as putting on the weights. This new style is with beads. I haven't heard of this and when the tech started getting all technical he lost me in the conversation. Has anyone else done this and can explain how this works in laymans terms. The only thing I got from the conversation is that it should improve tire wear by 40%. Thanks.

i previously had a gorgeous '04 with matching factory luggage and 2bros. during a weak moment, i sold it:crazy: and have been yearning for another. i just purchased a '00 yella vfr and absolutely love it. problem is that my wife loves it too....too much. she's thinking of getting her own for some touring next year as she has a R1 and a triumph daytona 675. here's the dillema. we don't want to be twinkies but want to have the right bike. 'zuks are great bikes and the dl is a vtwin. still not a vfr though. we want a newer bike but i wasn't too keen on the vtec...but the bike was dead-on reliable for 35k miles before i sold it.
any opinions? btw, if she did get a vfr, we'd have another member on the site...
