OK, I know the stock gen 1 probably is not the first choice for an all season bike in Ohio, what can I do here. I was greared up prety darn good, all my safetygear, plus my old Army poly-pro underwear and a kneck gator. Air temp was about 39F. Had the day off, had to run downtown to pick up some paperwork. So it was my 92 F-150 or my FZ1, I said what the hell. My core was prety good, but hands and lower legs were DAMN cold! I had covered up the bike for the season 3 times and keep breaking it back out. I know some of you guys out there ride nearly all year. What kind of options would you guys recomend if I keep doing silly stuff like this. I hate the looks of the touring wind screans but do they help? I'm thinking if can deflect more wind I would be fine. I have some great gloves for warmth but I can't feel the controls well enough to feel safe.

Top Moments in VFRW History!

In my time on the forum anyway.

Well since winter is coming I’d been thinking back at some of the moments that have made VFRW the crazy but good forum it is, so here we go:

10. Sebspeeds VF Rebuild

Most of us on this board are a bunch of retards when it comes to really wrenching on a bike. But sebspeeds VF rebuild has been an inspiration to many on this forum. One of the true technical threads that has helped us all limp along and dream “Man, if I only had the tools, talent, money and time”.

9.	All threads started by GoForARide (a.k.a birrddseedd)

Nobody quite does idiocy with commitment like GoFor does. Highly entertaining, yet scary in his implications with the deeper meanings behind his posts. I believe Harvard has dedicated a philosophy class on his ramblings. Is he a giant in metaphysics thinking or just some lonely young man looking for attention in Michigan? Only time will tell. But GorFor does get deep respect for driving (with his wife on the back) what squirrelman called “the ugliest VFR” he’s ever seen form Kalamazoo to Niagara Falls.

8.	drewls “Tiger, Tiger” thread

The philosophical adviser, post hooer and former chat hooer himself decided to give birth to this monstrosity because 1. He needs a bigger post count and 2. Well…to be honest I can’t explain what the hell he was thinking. But he created the most useless, intelligent, stupid, fun, ghey, thread that will surly haunt VFRW members, new and old, for years to come. When they get to the end of the thread, 8 days later, asking: “What the hell”?

7.	Jamie Daugherty

VFRW’s resident ‘older’ VFR guru. Jamie’s knowledge of the older VFR’s continues to amaze and in light of recent events his customer service is something corporate America should take a good hard look at and study. I’ve said it once I’ll say it again: “If I lived closer to Jamie D. I’d buy an 86 VFR and have HIM fix it for me”!

6. SLO/ Reg71 BBQ’s/ Scubalongs B-Day party

The pictures in these threads only tell half the story. There is no doubt they’ve been an inspiration to those VFRW members who have watched, via live video feed, and those who have attended these parties in person filled with sin and debauchery. Please keep the pics and live feeds coming West Coast VFRW crew with the trail of broken bike parts, burnt rubber and vomit in tow! They’ve been an inspiration to us lazy East Coasters who just can’t seem to get together in the same numbers?

5.	elf800

“The Troll to End all Trolls” he was called. If you’ve been around here awhile you know him well…maybe too well. For those of you who don’t know the name he had many names like Satan. Nom de gurre’s like “emptyskull”, “deepdish” and some others I can’t remember. But there was no mistake when he had appeared. Emoticons and VFRW member’s feelings littered the battlefield. The BBUWWWAAA-ambulance was called daily! No other VFRW member could singlehandedly destroy a thread as quickly as elf800. Armed with “canub whiskey technology” he was almost unstoppable. Banned three times (or more) from VFRW he kept coming back like a zombie; even headshots didn’t seem to work. Like Judge Holden in “Blood Meridian” “he gathered [us] against his immense and terrible flesh” and violated us in horrific ways left in the realm of our deepest fears and imagination.

4.	The slick 50 thread

If elf800 left anything positive from his legacy it was the slick 50 thread. At that time he went by “emptyskull”. For about three weeks straight nobody could get a straight answer on any question. Slick 50 WAS the answer!

Q:What is good brake fluid?
A: Slick 50.

Q: I’m having problems with my RR, what’s the best replacement?
A: Soak you old RR in Slick 50

Q: What’s the best aftermarket exhaust?
A: Dump slick 50 down your stock exhaust and your bike will get 200hp.

Q: What beer do other VFRW members enjoy?
A: Any beer that has been mixed with slick 50 IS the best.

Q: What’s the cure for the common cold, AIDS and my wife won’t have sex with me?
A: Slick 50, slick 50 and slick 50

We traced the history of slick50 during it R&D days too. From when it was slick 25 to slick 33 and a third, and when they finally settled on 50 itself . Also, let us not forget slick 50’s urban cousin and aspiring rapper slick fiddy!

The most epic moment in the slick 50 threads? Slick 50 vs._______! When Y2Kviffer laid down the challenge of slick50 vs. Chuck Norris we all knew that was too tough to call. A battle that would have had apocalyptic outcomes for the whole cosmos! I’m thankful that Saturday afternoon movie does not exist fellow VFRW brethren.

So if you are new to VFRW and somebody offers up the benefits of slick 50, you know why.

3. Harley Hating Threads

Like Frankenstein, I created the ultimate monster that ended having to be destroyed by its owner. A year ago (or more) I posted up a thread titled “Who Hates Harley Davidson”? Little did I know I was the only one with penned up anger against the poseurs in that crowd. That thread turned out, at that time, to be the largest thread in VFRW history. It got so good the ‘Orange and Black’ cult members started to log onto VFRW and make comments and attack me, KC-10FE and others personally. It was a rare thing of beauty. But like all beautiful things in life, the beauty fades and the plug had to be pulled. I remember the day well; KC-10FE was taking on some HD turds and was up to his eyeballs in battle. By this time the mods were closely watching the thread and I knew one really good personal attack would shut it down. So I went for the throat and raised up my piece of art, my creation, and slammed it down…and within a few minutes the VFRW mods pulled the plug. Believe it or not folks, I understand why and hold no ill will. Besides, I consider it a blessing for a couple reasons. One, I the artist, helped destroy his creation, and Two, the threads have not stopped. In fact, others carry the torch and if you watch VFRW closely you’ll see the ‘hatin’ flare up here and there. And I’ll never forget all the PM’s from fellow VFRW members who offered support during that battle. Your allegiance will never be forgotten.

Rumor has it that there are underground copies of that thread in circulation. Bubba Zanetti has it on good authority Matt Stone and Trey Parker used it as basis for their recent South Park episode: “The F-word”. I’m waiting for Snopes to confirm this intel.

2.	The VFRW Owner and Mods

Hey, what can I say except ‘thanks’. This place is like a good bar that is filled with good people, jerks, no-it-alls and everything in between. They give us a lot of leeway and because of that I highly enjoy being a part of VFRW. I think this place is a good representation of what ‘motorcyclists’ truly are. We come from all walks of life. Our jobs vary greatly. Many of our political beliefs are polar opposites. But we all share the common belief the Honda VFR line up is one of the best bikes ever created. We celebrate that fact and our owner and mods celebrate it too. I consider it a blessing to have an internet forum we can come on, be ourselves and share our knowledge, and get very little flack for doing so and in it all they party, ride, laugh and cry with us. Pretty cool folks.

1.	The Foster RAD thread

Talk about rallying around a fellow VFRW member. That thread brings a smile on my face for sure. I hope that TOECUTTER gets his money back, then fixes that exhaust, puts it on the bike, then takes a picture with as many CA VFRW members in the pic as possible all giving the finger and send it to Foster RAD. I think that would chap the good Doctors ass pretty good. All the time he’s been in business and ripped people off, now someone got something for nothing and shove it right in his face!

SO, what are your top VFRW moments?

Peace,

That said....

Well guys, most of my friends are either on vfrworld, or from vfrworld. I am tired of PMing, emailing, texting all the crazy shit I find on the web to you guys but I dont want to litter the the rest of our forum with the stuff I find, so I figured I would make one thread and you can ignore it or check it out.
There will be plenty of funny stuff, wierd stuff, interesting stuff and scary stuff on here. Nothing Pornographic or offensive racially, politically, etc etc.

There will be ALOT of non bike related stuff on here, but I will include any that I find that is bike related as well. I will probably post once a week with my favorites, or anytime I see anything that fits in. I you are going to participate in sharing anything here, please label it accordingly ie;
this is funny. ( and then supply your link )
this is cool. ( and then supply your link )
etc.
Most importantly if its gonna be a disturbing news broadcast or something please let us know, no one wants to have kids in the room and click on a link of a suicide bombing or something.

I really think this could be a neat thread, but if we go to far, or get offensive it will ( and should ) be deleted.

Enjoy.

So a few weeks ago the wheels were put in motion of whether or not we were going to load up the family and head down to NC for Thanksgiving to visit...

So a few weeks ago the wheels were put in motion of whether or not we were going to load up the family and head down to NC for Thanksgiving to visit my In-Laws. To be honest at first I was not really looking forward to driving for 17 hours and getting there and realizing that every dam road I’m on down there is begging for my motorcycle to be ridden on them. At times I'm driving along and suddenly I can picture my bike below me wrestling this curve to submission… But then "The Wife" gave me a budget…

The answer to this problem was a trailer. I need a trailer to put the bike on and thus behind the family truckster I could bring my “Trusty Steed” and thus spend a few hours carving out some of those twistys that had beckoned me on previous visits. Now it was just up to me to find one and hopefully do it within "The Wife's" budget. But I didn’t want just a Motorcycle trailer… I wanted it to be multi-purpose. I wanted it big enough for the bike in one configuration and then I wanted it to be able to haul lumber, firewood, and those miscellaneous items you buy at Home Depot and or Lowes that will not fit inside the Yukon.

Surfing the internet I was on craigslist, Lowes, Home Depot and even individual trailer mfg websites. I was on Tractor Supply’s Website when I initially found a floorless trailer for $349.. None of my Local TSC’s could get one in time for me to modify, floor and whatever. It was while visiting the MFG website (carry-on) that I discovered a startling revelation. The $349 Trailer was only capable of hauling 700lbs. Indeed after seeing that stat and looking at the enlarged picture I could see why. Very small angle iron and as I had already looked at a few 5×10 trailers at Home Depot that flexed could only imagine that thing was no better.

I decided to visit the Tractor Supply Company directly and in illuminated nighttime lighting I looked at their 4×6 trailer that was marked at $399.. Now I know you might be thinking that’s barely large enough. Actually, I think it is more than enough. It barely flexed at all like the 5×7 and 5×10. It does not have a ramp but that’s OK I can make ramps. And it has a much beefier 1700lb rating. I decided to Purchase the spare tire and mount which to be honest almost cost just as much as the trailer but I figure playing against Murphy means if I buy the Spare I will not need it but if I do not have it I will need it. (Murphy was an optimist.)

In the midst of all this a friend of mine who had much the same dilemma sent me a link to what he did to last year’s(possibly earlier) model of a 4×7 that had a ramp. He put a floor on it and all so I grabbed a lot of “Idea’rs” from him. SO last week I bought the trailer at Tractor Supply and got a chock and also purchased the Canyon Dancer II bar kuffs (Highly Recomend those BTW)

So this past weekend with the rain coming in heavily on Saturday it put a real damper on me doing any work on the trailer. With my daughter’s birthday party on Sunday afternoon I was concerned about time but with a bunch of help on Saturday my wife was nice enough to assure me all I should need to do on Sunday was help carry in groceries and hang the pińata. So order of the day was to set up the bounce house which had my son in his clothes for the first time ever on a weekend before 8 O’clock AM and then get to Lowes, then come back in build the trailer.

With setting up the bounce house done I started my trek to Lowes. Once there I started to look at lumber and formulate my plan in my head. The plan was going in multiple directions. My initial plan was to get just one 2×10 and put that on the trailer and I could customize the rest later. But then with 200 bucks worth of Lowes Birthday and XMAS gift cards burning a hole in my pocket I said screw it lets floor the whole thing

I soon realized my math skills that I never thought I would ever use were in need… and with no calculator in sight I had to do some math in my head…. SO… you know how that went… Actually, believe it or not, surprisingly well.. I picked up some 5/8×6 pressure treated deck lumber and a pressure treated 2×8 for a ramp, and a 2×4 to put under the trailer (I also had some scrap 2×6 boards at home that I would use as well.) to even up the spacing of carriage bolts. I then grabbed some pressure treated strapping for some guide rails for the Motorcycle tires. I had already purchased the Chock for the front wheel and straps I had bought with the trailer at Tractor Supply.

Initially, I put the trailer decking down cut at length spaced with a nail to allow for water seepage using standard deck screws just to get spacing correct. I then replaced each screw one plank at a time with one single carriage bolt at spaced intervals from front to back. Essentially it worked out to 4 carriage bolts per plank. My first plan was I was going to use 8 carriage bolts per plank… I then realized that was just plain over kill not to mention expensive. Before I tackled the ends I mounted the chock and then mounted the guide rails with standard deck screws.

My math for planks was off or so I thought. Apparently my sub conscious was working for me. You see, I started with one plank at the very center of the trailer and worked my way to both sides. I then realized I had one plank left and 2 sides to do… DOH! But I then realized in looking at the problem, that I would have to make a long cut anyway to fit a plank. And I decided to use some of my scraps so there would essentially be 2 smaller planks per side. It worked out well I think, and I decided the sides would be more than fine with just standard deck screws instead of carriage bolts.

Before I could complete that though insert a few hours of my daughter entertaining her friends and opening her birthday presents. (Insert sounds of screaming kids and Happy Birthday being sung.)

Once everyone left I resumed work. I cut the end planks and after that I decided to try and get the motorcycle on. The initial motorcycle mount went OK but I realized the chock was to far back. So I remounted it as far forward with the motorcycle not only touching the chock but the front rail for the trailer as well. With the other way the rear tire was sitting too far back to be able to remove the ramp…. OOOPS… Ok so maybe I should have ordered the 4×7 trailer… But it works and I’m very happy with the balance of the trailer with the bike mounted. One person can move trailer and bike with absolute ease which is a major bonus as the size of the trailer behind a GMC Yukon makes it almost impossible to back up.

Overall I’m happy with the results. Eventually, I will make walls that are removable for motorcycle mode and the walls will be mounted for home improvement chores/dump runs.

As some of you know, toe picked up a suzuki GS500 for neck (aka cundi) yesterday in chico. Our usual group was hanging out and drinkin a few beers (only one or two by this time) when we decided to unload it out of toes truck.

Several of us took it around the block a few times. Surprisingly its a very fun motor bike, I may just have to pick one up when the financial situation allows. Anyway, we all had a hoot on it and neck wanted to get home since it was freezing and the temp was dropping, and he wanted to show his wife.

So, after he left, maybe 2 mins later, toe gets a call. The bike died and he pulled off the road. Toe and I hop in the truck and locate his ass to see what happened. Turns out the take had hit reserve, and the petcock needed to be switched over. Cant blame neck tho, new bike, dark, and it took us a while to find it until we got headlights pointed at the damn thing.

Anyway, we got the bike running and got neck back on his way and told him to gas up at the next station a few miles down the road. Toe tossed me the keys to the truck and we decided to follow him to the station, just in case.

Well, following neck to the station, i looked at the speedometer ad noticed he was doing less than 40 in a 45. Being one who hates to be under the speed limit, and some egging on by toe, i floored the Tundra and passed him! :clap2: To make it even better, he had no answer to it!

Sorry, just thought it was funny and wanted to share...

Sincerely,

After weeks of working on other peoples bikes i decided to go back to a project for me with my '04 FZ1. This Moto-GP slip on was some thing I messed with before and now it's the second prototype. It has the baffles from the stock pipe from an '82 Kaw K305. I think I got the sound I'm going for. Looking for opinions on if I'm going the right direction. General looks, shape, size. Color: Flat black, gloss black, aluminum finish? Any input?
