Things to look for
I am considering the purchase of a 1998 VFR 800 from a friend. It has always caught my eye and I once rode it from San Diego to Julian into the glaring sun, did an all day KLR tech day and rode it back to SD in the dark with glaring oncoming headlights. I don't ride well in the dark or with glare so you can guess it was not the most fun ride. Good power, handles well, shifts well, comfort can be improved. I would buy the Helibars if I buy the VFR.
What are the things I should look for that might be a current or future problem? What are the things I should look for that would be a plus such as add-ons? Thanks in advance. Tim |

Look at an aftermarket seat....Sargent is preferred by most I would say, but many like the Corbin as well. I upgraded to a Zero Gravity double bubble windscreen to help with the blast. Some go for the touring one for more protection.
The VFR's archilles' heel is the R/R (regulator/rectifier). It can overload the stock (insufficient) small gauge wiring and cause the connectors/harness to melt, along with firing the R/R in the process. Doesn't happen to everyone, but it is the most frequent problem overall probably. Want a cure? Go to this guy's webpage below. He makes new heavy duty harnesses for the VFR. Your worries would be over. Wire My Bike
