2000 VFR Clutch replacement

OK, here's the deal...

16,000 miles of moderate to aggressive riding PLUS a bunch of MSF classes (instructing - lots of friction zone demos and figure 8's in the box) have wrecked my clutch (I'm convinced). *I've also done a few big RPM clutch dumps and heard the basket shudder. *I run the Mobil 1 15W50 oil - non energy conserving.

Please don't turn this thread into an oil debate.

Anyway.....

It disengages when I barely touch the clutch lever... *I bled the clutch thoroughly and it helped a little, but it slips at the slightest movement of the clutch lever.... The friction zone used to be right in the middle of the the lever travel.... *No, I haven't changed the lever adjustment either... I heven't detected it slipping in gear yet, but the time is coming...

SO, I'm faced with a clutch replacement...

Can anyone recommend a replacement besides the stock clutch discs and springs ?? *Is the stock stuff ok ?? I have since given up on MSF instructing because work is too crazy, so that should save it a bunch....

TIA,

-Stephan

Re: 2000 VFR Clutch replacement

It depends on how mechanically inclined you are.

It shouldn't be a big deal...

remove right side plastic
drain oil
open RHS cover to expose clutch
remove clutch and replace with new bits & torque fasteners
clean off gasket from cover/block
re-install new gasket
re-install RHS cover and torque fasteners.
re-fill oil and start
check for operation of clutch
install RHS plastic

A Factory Service Manual would be handy....

Re: 2000 VFR Clutch replacement

Hi I am noticing a bit of throwout bearing noise on my 2001 vfr 800.I just got her 3 days ago.Is this normal? Clutch in its silent but clutch out the noise is there but not to loud and I feel a slight vibration I am guessing from the bearing slack.Should I mess with it? The bike only has 2300 miles.I akso heard a really high pitched squeel yeasturday when I was close to red lkine in 2 or 3rd gear any ideas what it was?
