Having a hard time finding parts for 1986 vf500f interceptor

Hello all, this is my first post and I have exhausted all options I know of. I need a good source for 1986 VF500F Interceptor parts. Specifically, I need a new petcock, or a rebuild kit for one. Can't find a rebuild kit anywhere and all petcock assemblies have been rediculous @ $125 or higher. I appreciate any info you can offer. Thanks

Parts for this bike are getting harder and harder to find. eBay is probably your best source for finding what you need. Also, try some of the specific user groups. Yahoo has two groups just for the VF500F.

Surely the petcock for a '86 VF500F is not unique to that bike. Can you cross reference? Perhaps a VF700F or first gen VFR would work, if not others.
Ebay.

This site http://honda.metropowersports.com/fiche_select.asp or bikebandit.com would surely have a rebuild kit for your petcock. Or you could try Jamie Daughtery's mod here

http://www.daughertymotorsports.com/index.html?

Click on the "How To" section and then click "VF500F Tank Valve Modification"

When cutting the diaphrams use a really sharp razor blade and try not to stretch the gasket or it won't seal or just go to the harware store and see if they have O rings that size.

I rebuilt the petcock on my 86 myself usually it is just a bad oring and yes that petcock is unique to that year and no one sells a rebuild kit for it.

Just drill out the rivets take one half of the body to the hardware store with you to find the right hardware, then go to the local auto parts store and get an o ring assortment and match it up to the old one.

Pay close attention to how the parts go together as you will find no diagram of it. It took me three tries to get it right.

Hope this helps

I'm parting out my VF500F, I have a working petcock I would be willing to sell you, along with any other part you may need.

cheapcycleparts.com is 30% cheaper than bike bandit for the same OEM parts.

I got the rebuild kit for my 500F direct from Honda for $33.71 tax included. I had to wait over a week for it to come in, but $33 isn't a bad price.

I think he needs a new petcock because like his and mine, the fuel will still flow with the valve in the "off" position.

But if you need just the vacuum diaphragm so it actually allows fuel to flow when the bike is on, then any Honda shop will sell it to you for around 30$.

2 weeks ago, I paid $31.55 for mine. And yes, the parts are getting more costly for this model.

I was quoted $145.87 for the radiator cap, thermostat, and the thermostat switch that turns on the fan.

OUUUUUCCCCHHHHH!!!! But I love her!!! And the 86 VF that is to come ;)

Cheers

LL
