83 carbs acting up
hey guys i had my carbs redone about 6 months ago. it ran great till yesterday it started up fine but after about a mile of riding it stalled out. after the stall it would only start and only stay running with the choke on full. it idles up to 5000 with the choke on but as soon as i put it in gear it stalls. it did this before i had the carbs done.
is it normal for carbs to have problems again after 6 months of off and on riding of atleast once a week |

No.
How did it stall? Gradually peters out until you couldn't keep going? Is your tank rusty? How's your fuel filter?

crack open the drain screws on the float bowls and drain out water condensation and rust flakes. Some rust can get through most filters, and draining float bowls periodically will keep the crap from being sucked into carb jets....
what was the longest period it sat unused over the winter??

It may be the screens in the petcock, up inside the tank, that are clogged. Try taking the fuel line off the intake to the pump and see how much flow there is.

...or the entire petcock assembly. Don't ask me why/how, but sometimes you have to replace the whole thing. Luckily they are really cheap (less than $20 if I remember correctly).
