Daugherty ...

I'm fairly certain you can get your answer here: Daugherty Motorsports Homepage - V4 Honda Performance Modification Home! I THINK Jamie Daugherty is a member on this discussion group, but I am not certain. Gray Market |

After checking out Jamie's website, I see that there are tons and tons of useful info about the VF bikes, even a carb removal/install howto that looks to be useful for the VFR's too, but nothing at all about VFR specific parts, mods, performance, or anything that I can see. Oh well, back to square 1.
Does anybody happen to know if any later model Honda shocks are interchangable with the 1st gen VFR shock?

Give it a shot ...

Yes, he seems to specialize in VF "stuff," however, I've seen enough of his posts (somewhere) to believe he is equally as knowledgeable on the VFRs. Give it a shot. Waddya got to lose? Gray Market |

YEP, JAMIE IS THE DA MAN TO SEE for suspension work, he modified a F3 shock to fit my 87 for the ever popular f2 conversion. and it looks great. now just gotta get those damn racetech emulator thingys.

Race Tech "thingys" ...

Yes, I highly recommend the Race Tech Gold Valve emulators. If you do the rear shock, you are almost required to upgrade the front end. You'll love the ride when you decide to do this. Gray Market |

would progressive rate fork springs, heavier fork oil, and an F2 front wheel on one of these first gen bikes give enough of an improvement to justify the investment?

well havent had a chance to ride it yet, but from what i hear from those that have done conversion, its a night and day feel. considering with the RTE they are basically copying today's fork technology. and the F2 wheel is definitily lighter than the vfr's. so i would suppose so, or at least hope so...

it looks as though jamie modified the F3 shock for mines. i assume that was the easiest to work with. it was something about the 87 vfr shock that made it harder. i know there was a lower clevis modification as well. I really dont know all the ins and outs of what Jaime did. but no sense of recreating the wheel in my opinion.
