how do you get the headlight bulb out

Ok, checked Clymers, and can't see behind the housing that well, after getting the rubber boot off, how do you get the bulb out??

you have to employ a technique my dad taught me years ago that he called "seeing with your hands". the bulb is held in the housing with a little spring clip thing. you have to go in, push the side of the clip slightly forward to get it out of its little niche, then it just swings out on a hinge that its mounted to. when you get the clip off, the bulb just falls out. pull it out of the connector, replace the bulb, and reverse the process.

I replaced the bulbs in my 06 with 4 PIAA. The first high beam was a snap the second one took forever. Once I got the clip off I couldn't get the connector off the back of the bulb. I had to take a screw driver and do a little prying to get it to release.

The PIAA's cost more than some others, but I am really happy with the light they put out.

I'm going to try a cool blue. If it doesn't work well, I'll try a silver star. I put them in my caprice and they were a huge difference. I don't ride at night, of I haven't yet, but you never know. Just that extra visablilty is what I'm looking for.

I try not to ride at night too. However, if I have to I want to see what's in front of me without straining. The PIAA's have blue tips on the bulbs that I kinda like.
I put some cheaper bulbs in my car and was not happy. That's why I bit the bullet and got the PIAA's.

my 86 uses the standard 9003/HB2 bulb. Its nice to be able to get something at the local auto parts store.

I wouldn't use the blue tipped ones here in BC. They are like a sick bird here. Illegal. You can use those very expensive gas lights. I would name them if I could spell them but the others are taboo.

Sqeeze on the side of the connector, Pull out slowly. There is a tab to lock the connecter and the bulb on the side. There is a post on this if you look in search option.

army, ill tell ya from personal experience that Cool Blue bulbs are just a waste of money. i used them on one of my vehicles before, and was completely dissapointed with both the color and the amount of light the bulb put out. A few years ago though, i switched to Silver Star bulbs, and I still use them in everything i own to this day (and my brother's truck and bike, and my parents cars, etc). theyre by far the brightest thing with a filament you can buy, and i like the amount of light they put out.

my next goal is to find a HID kit that will fit the VFR's.

The PIAA's have a blue tip but are not the blue coloured light. The glass part of the bulb is clear...not tinted. I have tried the blue light style bulbs....I too was not happy with the light they put out. They also didn't last long.

Check with this guy Viff on our forum. I got my set up from him and it is great.

Once I got it out, its waaaaay too easy. I thought the rubber boot was attached to the plug. Once I got it apart, I realized it is layered on. The bulb, the boot, then the connector, going back together, reversed getting it out.

Thanks for the help! BTW, the cool blue is very bright!

I'm having trouble with the boot too. Guess its been a while since its been touched! BTW PIAA bulbs are great. Got em on the maxima and planning now for the bike...

There's a little tab, just pull it easy, and it'll slide right off.

I can't even find the PIAA bulbs local, but the Sylvania cool blue works really nice.

I put those PIAA H4's on my 2000 VFR and love the look of "blue tip" at night. First time I took the bulbs out, I ended up having to take over the entire front fairing because I couldn't get those clips to budge. I had to use some pliers to push them in once I got the fairing off and I could see what I was doing. I love the PIAA's though, I hope they last long because they are expenise.
