Cheng Shin Hi-Max

Sorry, I know there are 1,000 tire threads...

I am in the need of a new rear tire. I've been looking around and I'm going to go with a 130/90/18. I found a good deal on a Cheng Shin Hi-Max tire and I'm curious does anyone have any experience with this brand? Also, is there any downside or upside to going with a larger tire on the stock rim? Will 130/90/18 be alright on the stock 84' 500F rim?

I forgot to add:

Right now I have METZELER LASERTEC on the bike. The front is showing a little bit of dry rot, but the tread is almost perfect.

After doing more research I have it narrowed down to the Bridgestone Battlax BT45 130/80/18 or the Bridgestone Spitfire S11 130/90/18.

Also, should I wait to install next year, or does it not matter?

Dry rot is bad!!!!I would replace both. Be carefull on the new tires they're slippery for the first hundred miles.

I have a 130/90-17 on the rear of my old Honda F, so the choices are about the same as yours. I tried a Cheng Shin long ago (like 10 or 15 years) and it worked OK, but I think it wore out quickly. That was before Cheng Shin had "categories", though.

I was going to give the Bridgestone Battlax a try when the F is road ready again. I seem to remember them being a good tire in their day, although I never tried them.

Thanks for the info...

I can get a good discount on a set of tires since it's the end of the season. Should I have them put on now and then store the bike till March 09 or should I just wait and pay full price and get them put on in spring?

Cheng shin is cheap garbage.Don't go cheap on tires. I have mostly run Metzeler not much else. I saw no reason to change after the first time. I think they are the best. Bridgestone is a good tire too. Some of my bikes came with dunlops I was not happy with them. I changed them out with ME Z2,3,4 and 6. Unbelieveable wear and grip and they are the mileage tires. 12k to 15k miles easy. Depending on your riding style of course.

If it was me, I would do it now. Five or six months of idle time won't hurt them.
