Engine dies on me!!!
Hello all.
The story - i have a 88 vfr 750 that dies on me after doing about 50 miles on the motorway (freeway to our american cousins). it'll start fine, idle fine, then will pull fine through all gears until about an hour later of doing a constant speed of about 70 - 80 mph the engine starts to lose power like the plugs are dirty or i've run out of fuel and need to switch to reserve. this has only started to happen after i put iridium plugs in about 2000 miles ago. the carbs were well out of sync before i put the plugs in and i just them balanced this weekend and it still does it. the fuel pump is mounted horizontally not vertically in case that makes a difference. it has a fairly new battery and the r/r is recently new also. after dying on me, if i leave the ignition off for about 30 seconds and then start the bike with the choke on, it starts up fine and no further problems. Anybody have an idea whats going on?

"this has only started to happen after i put iridium plugs in about 2000 miles ago".
As good a place as any to start.....install the standard recommended plugs.

do iridium plugs run hotter or use more fuel than ordinary ones?
will switch plugs and see what happens.

From NGK's website: Iridium is a precious, silver-white metal and one of the densest materials found on earth. The natural properties of Iridium offered NGK the opportunity to create one of the world's finest spark plugs. The result are spark plugs that require less voltage to spark, burns fuel more efficiently, sparks at leaner air/fuel mixtures, and delivers higher horsepower and better gas mileage.
Possibly the carbs are adjusted too lean, which is causing your problem....??
