New owner of 84 VF1000F

Hello, recently purchased a 84 1000cc with 45,000 miles. I've owned lots of Hondas from CB160s to CB750s but this is my first V4. What are the issuses with this model and problem areas and any fixes. Really impressed with the smoothness and strength of the motor and of course the styling. Is there any opinions on tire size? I'm thinking of changing the front to a 110/70x16.
I curently have a 74 CB750 and a 06 Suzuki VStrom DL1000.

The 110-70 will give you a shorter, narrower tire, probably not the best thing for a big bike. Any reason you're looking at that size? As for any issues, the cams/rockers have been known to start pitting, adding a new oil line to the heads is a must. The only other issue is trying to keep your license when you start having too much fun!

That's a cool bike, I wouldn't mind having one back again that's for sure, Hmm I need to look up what tire I had on mine, I recall I went against the grain and put on radials in the stock size, I do remember they where Pirellies

Thanks GenLightening and Insider, I guess I'm trying the 110/70 tire because that's the size on my Suzuki VStrom. And it handles great on the mountain roads. You mention installing a new oil line, can you give me any info on that? Is there a kit or instructions some where? My VF is also a Canadian version with 73,000 km. I gave the miles in my intro. I drove to Toronto just 3 weeks ago to pick it up. The tires I'm installing are Avons and will report back as to how they work. I have Bridgestones on the VStrom and like them except for the mileage. Probably won't get very good mileage on the VF either as like you said, it is a danger to my license.

Keep in mind the VStrom has a 19" wheel and the VF only has a 16", not to mention an extra 125+lbs. The oil line mod takes oil from the crank gallery and gives the heads high pressure oil, instead of low pressure oil. I made my own braided lines with AN fittings. There are some kits around, do a search or wait for someone to post the link. Ahve fun with it, I know I did when I was racing mine. Just need to get it out of mothballs, install the CBR 17" rear wheel and start working on some nice forks for it.

Thanks for the info on the links, I looked at several and was impressed at the information out there. Also on the switch on tire size, I looked at a tire size chart and the 120/80 tire is 4 inches in width and the 110/90 is 3.50. I installed the 110/90 tire today and I feel as if the steering is a little lighter. Braking is not affected as far as I was able to determine. If I figure out how to post pictures I'll show the difference. Really very small. If the other tire was not there to compare I'd say it was the same size by the way the tire fills the fender/fork area.
