Parting out '84 VF500F

Hey everyone, I bought this bike a few months back with plans to fix it up and get it running great again, but quickly realized I was going to need more money in parts than I paid for it. If you have any specific parts you need let me know and I can get pictures if anyone needs them. The gas tank is trash as the previous owner tried (poorly) to patch it and never finished. It does have a Sargent seat which I found to be very comfortable in the short distance I rode it. I will post up pictures later tonight of what I have available.

Thanks,
Patrick

Hi,
What condition is the seat in? How much were you looking to get for it?
Shipped to 44236, Ohio.

Cheers

LL

supervfr:
I don't have the battery for it, it came without one and I just borrowed a battery from another bike when I rode it. For the fuel pump how does $10 plus shipping sound? I'm in SC, 29642 if that helps give you an idea of shipping. The bike did run before I started stripping it down, though it never ran well. It seemed to be just out of synch because it surged a lot and was difficult to maintain a constant speed. I believe the carbs have been re-jetted because the bike had aftermarket exhaust. I can pull the float bowls tonight to check the jets if you need me to.

LL:
The seat is in good condition, a little dirty from being in the garage and has a worn spot at the front left corner. I took a close up picture of it so you can check in the links below. I'm not really sure what to ask for this but maybe $100 shipped?

More info on the bike:
Has 26,xxx miles, everything seems to be there and work except some of the electronics(mostly things in the dash). Previous owner painted all the plastics flat black, looks like a rattle can paint job. The engine appears to be in good shape, I have not pulled the valve covers to check out the cams yet but I did not notice any unusual valve noise when it ran. If you have any questions about any parts feel free to ask. I'll apologize in advance if it takes me awhile to answer because time isn't something I have a lot of lately.

Sounds great. i bet the carbs are just dirty. happens after 22 winters sittin in a garage. Itl be a couple weeks or so before ill have the money. (im hoping to get till friday without 12 overdriafts).

do you have this part.

take off the air box (not the alluminum part inbetween the airbox and carbs(air box base)) looking down into the air box base there are 4 jet looking peices about a cm long. and 8 screws holding down the air box base.

ill buy the 4 jet looking peices.

I'm gonna pass on the seat.... I was hoping for a different color combo that they came in.

Thanks though......But...do you have any excellent rear blinker arms??

Thanks

Hey, sorry I'm just getting back... it's been a busy week so far.

supervfr:
I think I know what you are talking about on the 'jet shaped pieces' but I'll try to take a picture tonight to make sure I know what you mean. I will also get pictures of all the other stuff I pulled out last night. By fuel sensor do you mean the petcock? I'm not sure if there is a sensor that I can see or am aware of. Also, you mentioned the clutch cover. I'd like to try and sell the whole engine as one piece rather than stripping it down but if I don't get any interest in it then we can work out a deal on that piece. All the other pieces you mentioned I'll try to get pictures/prices tonight.

emptyskull:
Like mentioned, I don't have a battery, but I do have a thermostat. Do you need the whole thermostat housing or just the thermostat itself? I'll get pictures up tonight.

LL:
By rear blinker arms do you mean the stalks the turn signals sit on or the pieces like in this picture: eBay Motors: 84-85 VF500F Interceptor Rear Blinker Mounts VF 500 (item 140150408309 end time Nov-13-08 17:37:44 PST)
I have those pieces like in the picture, but not the original blinkers. I can get you a picture tonight.

slippy: It does have the windscreen and belly pan, but spray painted flat black by PO. Supervfr asked about the front fairing first so he's got dibs on that if he wants it.

As for the Sargent seat, I think it's very good. I haven't ever sat on a stock one so I don't have a basis for comparison besides my other bikes. It's a very hard seat and doesn't give very much but I personally prefer that. YMMV

The fuel sensor should be on the very bottom of the tank, its about 1.5 - 2 inches wide and has 4 bolts 1 in each corner. there is a wire that comes out and plugs into another wire under the tank that leads to the dash.

Fairing?

Nope.... I mean the blinkers stalks....I really don't know what they call them besides arms.

Its the rubber part that connects the blinker to the arms thats like on ebay.

If you need a picture of what I mean, I'd be happy to send you one.

Thanks

LL

Hey, I think I have answers to everyone's questions.

tjwor: yes I have the coils, wires, and water pump. I haven't removed the water pump yet, but I got a photo of it on the bike. how does $35 plus shipping sound?

loopsandlogic:
based on your description I'm pretty certain I don't have those. The PO replaced the stock turn signals with fake carbon fiber ones. If you want those or the piece they're mounted to just let me know.

emptyskull:
here's pictures of the t-stat housing, let me know if you want it or just the t-stat

slippy:
I'll let you know if supervfr and I don't work something out on the body parts

supervfr:
I'm pretty sure this model wasn't equipped with a fuel sensor, this is the bottom of the tank I have and I don't see anything like you described

here's photos of the other stuff, since it's so much stuff I'll pm you and try to work out a deal on all of it

are these the 'jets' you're looking for?

I wasn't sure if you wanted the front or rear brake lever... front is scratched up but rear is in pretty good shape.

the picture of the clutch cover is up above.

Thanks,
Patrick
