85 700F suspension & exhaust upgrade options
I just picked up an 85 700F. I am in the process of fixing up some of the neglected maintenance issues. I have four questions.
1) Does anyone know where I can get an aftermarket shock or working used one? 2) Are the stock shocks rebuildable? 2) Does anyone know what my after market exhaust options are? 3) Why does there seem to be so few 85 700F bikes around? Looking forward to being part of the family.... |

1 & 2 ... Daugherty Motorsports Homepage - V4 Honda Performance Modification Home!
2 again...most keep the collector and throw on a pair from another bike. A 4-1 is rare but usually worth it. 3 No idea

Daugherty Motorsports.... First class help! Check out the website then contact Jamie. I uncovered my '84 750F this fall after 11 years of storage, to find the rear stock shock stuck in the colapsed position. I now have around 1000 miles on the bike since I put a CBR900RR shock from Daugherty and am loving this setup more each time out.
As for the exhaust, with some luck, there are some systems out there. A couple months ago I picked up a new in box Kerker 4 into 2 system from someone here on this forum that had been in storage for the last 10 years. (lucky) Since then I have watched a used Supertrapp system and a used Yoshimura system sell on EBay. Keep looking and somthing will turn up. (PM me your email address. I have a name of someone who has a used system that needs more work to make it look nice than I was willing to spend). As for question #3, I think a large majority of the '83-'85 Interceptors ended up being wrecked within the first few years of their life. I remember hearing, but do not recall the number, the percentage of '83 & '84's that were wrecked. This was about the time when all the insurance co.'s began to charge more for "sportbike" coverage because of all the Ricky Racers stuffing their bikes into things and then turning in claims. (just my opinion) Congrats on becoming a "Hector" rider! :) |

Thanks for the kind works fellas,
Exhaust is a problem, you are lucky to find a used system and when you do they are typically not in very good shape. Actually, there are a LOT of 700 and 750's around. You just have to look. They were very popular models so finding bikes and parts is pretty easy. |

Bear in mind that the stock shock requires a Schaeder valve to be installed in order for it to be rebuilt. The cost of doing that is pretty steep, that's what makes the CBR929 conversion so appealing. For less money you can have a shock that performs tons better than the stock unit ever drempt of. |
