VFR solo cowl problem

My original solo cowl for my 1986 VFR is not fitting flush. The side tab on one side doesn not fit in flush like the other and when riding it pops out and rubs against tail cowl section taking away the paint. Anyone else have the problem of one of the tabs popping out and rubbing against rear bodywork.

tabs

First step in gen 2 cowl is to remove the tabs. They will ruin the paint and nothing will keep them in the slots. You can fight it but it is hopeless. If you keep your owners manual under the seat ( where they made a spot for it) it will cause the seat to sit up a little high and it make problem worse.

thanks..thinking back my previous 86 someone removed the tabs on the cowl. I think I may have to cut them off as my paint is chaffed off from it now.

Oh good chance to segue to something I had a brainwave (fart) on today...

Have any VFRW members had the cowl chromed?

It could be pretty blingy to see a shiny bump back there...

Gotta say that may be the worst idea for one of these bikes I have ever heard of.

Nah...it'd just be that one piece guys...oy, your a conservative bunch, hey?

Anyway, after reading up on the various ways it could be done, it may not be worth it.

Where can I get this rear cowl, I've searched for new and used, and best I can find is here --> Fairing Kits and Cowls, They just seemed a little high, but then again, haven't seen another for sale. Any help would be appreciated. Be it new or used...don't care.

Cowl

I think the best way is to camp out on Ebay and with some luck and a fist full of dollars you should come up with one.

Toe Cutter, you're a F'ing genius. I don't have to paint my VFR now, I'll just figure out a way to attach aluminum foil to the body work and call it a day.

Spray adhesive from the craft store should work perfectly.
