There is a lot more damage to the bracket on the recent pic vs the one on the first page. I never got the spacers mixed up either. If you have anything more to say to me i just PM'd you my phone number

![]() I see no reason to discuss anything with you over a long distance phone call. I never wanted to bring this up since it will serve no purpose but create an argument. I only bring it up now because I'm trying to bring in the Hypothesis that the kit never properly fit your bike. ...and I only make that Hypothesis since the claim that you had no issues with your bike and this kit seems to be a prime topic in the fitment issues I am having.

I am hoping that Jamie finds an issue with the kit. (I know that is not what Jamie is hoping for but it's the easiest explanation and solution)
I don't think it will in anyway make Jamie seem any less capable or taint his reputation in any way. Infact....if he finds there's an issue with something and replaces it I would think that would be a tremendous showing of Jamies concern for quality and customer satisfaction. But alas....I am getting ahead of myself.

I checked all of the parts and they are dimensionally correct. The next step is to try and fit them to my own bike. I've been down for the past few days with a nasty case of the flu (H1N1?) so once I get to feeling better I'll have more to report.

I'll be putting it on one of my 84's. All years are the same though. I've had many of them installed on 86's and they fit perfectly (Matt's is an 86, for example). |

But if it fits your 84 I am still in the same position I was in before....wondering what is different from my bike that it won't fit on properly. ....but we will cross that bridge when we get to it.

Jamie has very nicely modified the Kit and sent it back to me....he told me he was going to explain in detail what exactly was done and what he found here in this thread when he finds some time.

Sorry for the delay in posting my findings, November is always the start of the busy time for me.
My first inspections showed that everything measured correctly. No parts were outside of the specified print tolerances. Since that part checked out ok, I proceeded to investigate the issues that Slowbird was experiencing. I had the three major ones listed as: 1) The bracket was touching the rotor bolts when the wheel rotates 2) The tab on the swingarm was pushing against the bracket and would not allow it to sit straight. 3) The last spacer was difficult to insert between the caliper bracket and the chain adjuster. I chose to work from the centerline out. To correct item #1 I added 0.5mm to the thickness of the spacer that goes between the wheel bearing and the caliper bracket. Checking the rotor position in relation to the bracket I found it to still be acceptable. For #2 I was compounded by the addition of the 0.5mm to the above spacer. Adjusting for that plus an additional amount to generate the clearance still provided an acceptable amount of engagement with the tab. Overall the adjustment was 2mm. #3 was easy, the last spacer was shortened to ensure a slip fit during installation. AS you can see, the changes were pretty small in magnitude. The adjustment for the swingarm tab was the biggest hitter, and it was probably overkill. The 2mm change is convenient because that is the next shorter length fastener available. I made the same adjustments to the parts on my own bike just to be sure the changes would not have any negative effects. My oldest two kids, who are ages 7 and 4, helped me put everything together. They didn't have any issues getting spacers in place, etc., and anyone with young children will tell you that if they can manage it with minimal instruction anyone should be able to. As mentioned, I'm going to make these changes permanent to reduce the risk of this happening again. Thanks go out to Slowbird for his patience and help throughout this process! |

Thanks Jamie for all your help.
I received the kit today and when I get some time I'll head out to where I'm storing the bike and get that wheel fitted
