'83 Front Fork Adjustment

Hey all. I'm new to the forum. I'm also restoring an '83 Ceptor.

There is an adjuster knob 1-3 on the right hand fork. My Clymer manual does not show this at all. I already know the specs for the air on the left, but this knob thingy is baffling me.

Any and all comments are appreciated.

It for adjusting the damping on only that leg, doesn't really do much.

It probably works better for that! Turn it to 3 to go faster!

heh...just wondering though...is there any advantage to dumping them and going with preload caps like Daughtry Motorsports sells?

They are better than what's there now. I don't run any air pressure in the forks and I already set my preload. They will make it easier to adjust. And they add bling points!

Just to clarify - I do not sell the caps. What I offer is a modification to your original parts. I sometimes get guys who order a modification and think they are getting the entire part and can keep their original ones intact. Those kind of people tend to get irritated when they find out that they need to send their parts to me.

Me too! My 1-2-3 knob has about 10,000 miles on it!

My bad....But then again i can understand that idea...chances are the bike will react to the change well enough i wouldnt want to go back anyways...just exactly what do the caps do?

They add a threaded adjuster (most new models have them stock) that you can screw in or out to adjust the amount of preload on the fork springs. I had to try one length of spacer and then disassemble it to try a new one. Those just makes things easier.
