Replacing Slip ons?

I've been looking at replacing my old scuffed up kerker slip ons w/some new or used Two Brothers C/F cans. Are most slip on's interchangable other than the inlet pipe size? I have access to a welder and could put a adapter on the pipe to fit the inlet but I'm worried about the possibility of back pressure issues or jetting problems. I've found a set off a 99 Blackbird 1000 and they look like they'll mount in the right location but I'll have to adapt the inlet to fit. Will these cause engine problems or should I stick w/cans designed for 600-800 motors? This is going on a 86 700F.
Thanks Guys
James

James, I have a 1986 VFR750F , and i have C/F cans from a Ducati 900ss, you just have to fit and weld the inlets like you stated, my engine also is a 840 c.c. built by dynamo humm back when they still built engines, if i could figurer out how to post pictures on here i would do it ?
take care and good luck

The pipes that I've found to be the easiest to install are ones from a VTR1000F SuperHawk. They require a little tweaking but actually fit pretty easily.

Which models will the VTR pipes fit on? Also what needs to be done to adapt them? I would like to hear more about this...i thought i had read something about VTR pipes fitting on the VF as well or at least the 1st/2nd gen bikes on here.

I have access to a plasma cutter, mill, welder, 20 ton brake press, surface grinder, and an endless supply of flat plate... I'm not worried so much about the placement or fabrication of mounts, but the effects on the motor. I've heard that messing around with the back pressure can really screw up the engine. Is the back pressure even an issue with slip ons or should any of them work about the same?

I ride with a VTR owner and yesterday i took a quick look between the bikes to figure out what would need to be done to install VTR cans onto a VF...its actually quite simple...a new straight section of pipe to go between the cans and the crossover needs to me made along with moving the clamp in line with the mount holes on the rearsets. one could move the can in a fair bit closer to the front pegs if they wanted to live with out the center stand. Personally i think im keeping the stand as it comes in handy for maintence. gonna look a little more into it as i might just opt to mount the cans in about the same place as the pass pegs. Will let everyone know how my progress goes once i can afford to buy some VTR cans..

You don't even need to go to that much trouble. Just get a set of VTR pipes and attach them to the VF's collector. You need to tweak the angle a little, but sometimes you have to do that when installing them to the bike they ARE supposed to be for. Aftermarket pipes are easiest because the mounts can (usually) slide along the muffler until you line up with the rear mounts.

Backpressure changes won't "really screw up an engine" but can cause power issues. Too much or too little can cause peaks and dips in the power curve. Slip-ons do not produce very much on the V4's, in fact they can often result in a decrease in power. We are talking maybe 3hp here, so it's not huge. If it's looks and sound that you are after, anything will fit the bill.

The VTR i was comparing against had D&D pipes on it. and im assuming the pipes going from the collector to the cans arent welded in place just clamped in right? Would make said tweaking easier lol. hmmm using said pipes would probably give me the clearance i need...bonus!..
