Need a good summer jacket,(Cortech GX Air Series?)
Hello all,
I am looking for a good quality summer jacket. I am in FL and it is HOT, I want a mesh jacket that provides good protection. Any reccomendations? There are so many choices out there. I am looking at the Cortech GX Air Series jackets, but they are nowhere to be found locally. Has anyone been using one, and if so how do you like it? Do the sizes run as stated or are they off? I am in the process of buying gear and am trying to stay comfortable in the heat, but protection is top priority. I am thinking some draggin jeans my be in my future as well. I am just getting back into riding and want to get properly geared up from the start. Any info is appreciated. Mike |

AkMik,
I wear First Gear Mesh Tex Jacket with either Draggin Jeans, warm but not unbearable, or a pair of First Gear Leather overpants, HOT but safe. I have been told by a guy on the forum that he went down wearing his Mesh tex Jacket and survived a 35 MPH lowside slide of fun on a twisty road in Tenn. and walked away. I have not tried mine and hope I never find out how good it is. I hope you never need the gear but I hope you will wear it always. I don't wear gauntlets just short glove one pr all leather and one pair suede and leather , my favorite,

I wear an Icon ARC mesh that I like. It has leather on the outside of the sleeves, which should help in a crash, though I hope not to test that.

I use a FirstGear Mesh jacket in summer as well. I have never had to test it's durability, but I know others who have.
It is pretty cool during the summer (California, 90's & 100's, but low humidity). When it gets really hot, I wet down the t-shirt and then put the jacket on and ride. Keeps me cool for quite a while. Phuqet |

I've got the Joe Rocket Phoenix 4.0...Mesh outer with removable waterproof liner that fits easily under the seat.
Haven't worn it in Florida summer heat, but had it out in 33C...about 87F I think, and was very comfortable. Got it on Ebag for 75 bucks, regularly $200 in stores.

I have a JR pheonix also, not sure what 'version'. It was one closeout at newenough.com for like 1/2 price. It does flow a lot of air and has some armor. I don't like that it has only a 8" zipper attachment though for the pants, it seems too easy that in a slide it could expose back or belly.
For pants I'm finding that JR blaster perforated leather even over jeans is relatively comfortable on warm days. Also ordered a closeout 1/2 JR supermoto perforated leather jacket from motorcyclecloseouts.com; hopefully that will be cool enough. The 360 degree zipper to pants attachment feels much more secure to me. I"m going to try a cooling vest underneath to see how that works out on hot days. |

Just got a Joe Rocket Phoenix 5. Very nice. Good flow. Haven't been out on a really hot day yet to put it to the test, but should do so soon.

Hey AkMik,
Personally I use an Alpinestars T-Breeze. I wear a medium and it fits as it should...snug, but not uncomfortable. I've tried on a Cortech GX Air also in size medium and it seems to run a bit big. It felt bulky and that was with the liner in. I really would have been swimming in it with the liner taken out. For comparison sake, I'm 6' and 170 lbs. The A-Stars products are great IMO, though they are a bit on the pricey side. Hope that helps you. Cheers, Jeff |

I have an Icon TiMax. The only thing I really don't like about it is it doesn't have hand pockets on the front. I would venture a guess that it's one of the best mesh jackets on the market.
I like the Alpinestars TStunt Airflow as well. KC-10 FE out... ![]()

I've had my textile out on a couple upper 90's HUMID days, and it was great - the only reason I started to get hot was from my helmet and from wearing a backpack (restricted air flow into the back vents)

I have the teknic supervent mesh jacket (from new enough) and the supervent pants. I believe they are an excellent product for the price New Enough sells them for. They even come with Knox CE approved armor ($64.99 currently for the jacket). I live in San Antonio, TX and we have been experiencing a heat wave lately, so I have got to try the product out a couple of times in triple digit temps. The mesh works, or I should say it works better than the leather jacket I have for this type of heat. Don't get me wrong, it's still hot, but when you move the airflow through the jacket helps a lot.

I have a tourmaster intake that i got on clearence @ www.chaparral-racing.com . Here in the florida panhadle it is usually about 95-100 with 100% humidity at mid day. the intake breathes great. the only bad thing is that its black and soaks up the sun but overall very comfortable. wicked cheap too.
